2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

[Vintage Leather]

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.



• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.





So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

November 26 - Bags by Jewelers: Bulgari, Cartier, Tiffany Co, Van Cleef & Arpels. Alternatively, the pillboxes, compacts and other lovelies made by jewelers that fit in your bag.

December 3 - independent artisans and custom bags.

For those of you that have experience with this kind of leather, I could use some feedback on it.
I have a milestone birthday later this year. And I don’t want a bag. I want a BAG! This Mark Cross Madeline has caught my eye.

The exterior leather is listed as 100% Dover box calfskin, the interior is red nappa leather.
Is this a delicate leather? Easy to scratch? Sensitive to water? Other issues?

That is a gorgeous bag! If it is anything like Hermes box leather, it is not delicate but it does scratch like most leather does. Its smooth texture just makes them more noticeable than pebbled or textured leather. Ok in water, but not waterproof. Wipe it off ASAP and it is ok. Many women prefer box leather for H bags because it is the easiest to recondition and repair, with the best results.

Thanks, this info is what I was looking for. I take care of my bags, but I don’t have time to baby them.
They have versions with textured leather, but this is the one I really like.

Quoting my own post to say, when I went to pick the Gucci Aphrodite up, I also stopped by Coach and saw the Sammy Top Handle here, in this same color. At least under store lights, the yellow was a bit lighter, not quite as saturated. I actually preferred the color in person. The bag gives a fancy girl vibe. But upon seeing it in person, like the Revel, I was easily able to resist.

I also stopped by Kate Spade and saw the heart bag, in red. It. Is. Gorgeous! It's prettier in person, I think, and the feel is absolutely amazing. So puffy and soft and squishy. And easily fits my phone. There would be no justification for me getting that bag right after spending so much on the Aphrodite, but I can't deny I want it. Well, we can't very well have everything we want, now can we?

Well, I succumbed to this bag. It got marked down and then also went on sale. So marked down 25%, the 20% off that. I'd been resisting it since mid December, resisted when it was 30% off, but they finally got me with this sale at 40% off. I ordered it in black. I really like the red, but since I'm allowing it to be my 'evening out' or 'fancy' bag (I don't have such, unless little Willis counts??), I got it in black so it would go with more. I'm not doubting getting the bag, but I am wondering if I won't be as happy with black as red. I saw the red in person but not the black. We'll see.

Good point. I do a very poor impersonation of a badass anybody. I've really been hitting that cute button most of my life, but now that I'm older, it gets harder to do. Maybe I should make more of an effort at badassery.

Ordered a little Crossbody from Hammitt yesterday. Felt annoyed with myself for getting another bag never having seen it in person. It is was on sale and is not returnable, so I hope I like it when it comes. I do know they have good quality though. Anyway I ended up dropping my LV Toilette 26 off at the consignment shop. I have had it for years and have not worn it. Trying to stick with the one in one out rule for myself. My only exception would be if I was truly over the moon for a bag.

Black was my default neutral for the longest time. Even now, although I may stray to other colors, I always eventually come back to black.

Ferragamo Vara Bow bag. I usually don’t like woven leather or bows, but something about them together in this bag I just love.

Ferragamo Gancini tote. A Christmas present to myself, it’s my fancy tote bag.

Coach Chaise, the small crossbody I didn’t know I needed until I bought it. Used it quite a bit last year. Plain black Coach Rogue, the one Rogue I didn’t want yet it’s the one I use the most.
