2018 resolution - shopping my own bag and wallet collection. Any one else?

This thread may just be what the doctor ordered for me - so glad to see kindred spirits here! Lots of great ideas and support.

It’s almost mid 2018 and here are what I have planned (and been doing, for the most part):

For clothing:
* Buy 1 piece of clothing, let go of 2
* Buy only pieces that can be used for years in other words classic
* Re-use, re-use, re-use!

For purses/bags:
* Buy items only on the wishlist

For shoes:
* Only buy those that are comfy and look good (im finding that combo a challenge to find)

In general:
1. Limit everything to within what storage allows, with ample breathing space in between items
2. When faced with temptation, I try to bear in mind that the environment also gets impacted by my unnecessary consumption- that usually gets me out of my shopping mode fast!
Great rules to follow! 1 in, 2 out is very effective in downsizing. I recently gave a bunch of clothes to a niece. My closet feels so much neater simply having less stuff in it. Treated myself to a new jacket today to celebrate the purge :D

Speaking of comfy shoes that are kind of cute, I have been a bit nuts painting my comfiest sandals lately. I've gone nuts on the metallic Rose, violet, and mermaid tones on 3 out of my 5 comfiest summer sandals I own. Naot, Wolky and camper are the brands I go with for long walks in summer. I love having happy feet and can't stand an outing ruined by shoes hurting but I hate looking shleppy so I think these being sparkly might make them seem more festive and less frumpy in evening, I dunno. At least I'm happy with how they turned out:

You did a pretty great job on them! [emoji106] [emoji106]

Thank you about the clothes. I just have so many crap lying around and never really get to clear them out properly lately.

About MM, this is what I'm thinking lately. I think it is a strange/special brand. I don't know how to phrase it and don't know if it's a curse or what. You have so many options to do while there're something you really can't change anything about it. Plus, you don't get to try it out first so It's really hard to tell whether or not you will love it in the long term. Everything will always be in your head, which may or may not match the reality. On top of that, you're the one who handpick the leather, half sight unseen coz you may or may not have the swatches. So, there'll be some emotional attachment there. I like the Aura at first. I love it so much I ordered one without the promo and order another one right after, also without the promo, without hadn't gotten the first one yet. I somewhat like my first one (The leather is the culprit here. It has a cast that comes naturally with the leather, but not what I expect.) and somewhat like the second one. (The leather is also the culprit here again. I matched it wrong. It shouldn't be used with such structured style.) I wore it for a while to know that while it's a great bag, it's not what I completely like so I stop there.
I somewhat hesitate to try Selene and Selene Midi coz it looks so big on the web and never get the rave coz it's just a simple tote, but finally caved on my last birthday. Best decision ever! I love everything about that bag, but the strap drop is too short for me. I can't put it up my shoulders without the hardwares scratch my underarm and that hurts. (Huge upper arms here.) So I learn from then on that I need to extend the strap drop on any Selene Midi if I were to order again. I do order it a bit too long in the next batch though, but it's not too bad. Perhaps just half an inch so I can live with that. But now I know if I were to order one again, how long I should ask for. And for other styles that I have? They're just something simply in between. I can easily live without them.

I think it's a brand that you really have to be sure and know what you want from that bag. And being in Asia from a country where the currency exchange isn't in my favor and the tax and duty is through the roof, the price of such experiment is high, I understand that it's not something you can make an impulse purchase on. It's fun, but even if you love the style on the photo, just like any other brands, you may not like it when you get it IRL. The good is that you dream up likely half the element that make up that bag, the bad is that it's just not what you actually like and you can't return. So, yeah.... I probably can understand your reason there.
This is why I have not ordered again. The bag was beautiful but the color I chose was not a good match to my clothes. It is hard to tell the texture and color sometimes on a screen. It was lovely but having to sell a brand new bag was a pain.

What a fun idea. Perhaps put painters tape next time along the sole to make it easier .

And speaking of new purchases, here is mine!

You all remember last fall, I bought the BV Chain tote. It’s a great smaller tote, but I found myself still needing a larger bag that I could carry over my shoulder. Something that fit what I usually carry in a large Longchamp le Pliage, but more luxe. In the last several months, I sold two of my three Hermes Garden Party bags because I couldn’t comfortably carry them over my shoulder. So I’ve really been feeling the need for a high-end shoulder tote, preferably with good interior organization but without a center divider.

I coerced DH to come to the Chanel boutique because I really wanted his opinion. Lucky for me, he likes Chanel’s bags more than any other designer, and he also likes my SA. There was one bag that was clearly better for me than the others, and to my surprise, he bought it for me for my birthday!

Here it is: I’m bad with Chanel bag names, but I think it’s called the Classic Timeless Tote.

View attachment 4083279

It has a zip pocket, two open pockets and a key hook on the inside. The closure is a CC turnlock — I have to get used to that and stop tugging on it like it’s a magnet!

View attachment 4083280

There is a full length pocket on the back, with a magnetic snap closure.

View attachment 4083281

It’s calfskin, although it’s soft enough that my SA thought it was lambskin before she checked. It’s incredibly lightweight and feels wonderful!

Thanks for letting me share!
Great bag. Gorgeous and totally practical. That outside pocket is perfect.

Totally agree. I like all the choices and the customizations with MM, and I got a lot of good tips and ideas from the threads here. I still think the bags are very well priced, but yes you have to hold it and wear it and see it in different light and figure out how heavy it is and which leather works best with which shape and style.

I also had some "misorders" before I discovered which leathers and styles work for me. Now I am able to say NO to sales, I am able to wait more patiently for my next orders. I do love having the choices though.

Congratulations! I know what you mean about having a neater closet. Whenever I give out clothes that I no longer use and look at my closet afterwards, it’s almost as if it’s looking back at me with a sigh of relief lol!

I put some of your words in boldface - they are so true for me too! Your sandals look so comfy and nice creative work on them! I especially like the first one. Thanks for sharing.
