I think it has to do with lack of tasks and work needed to be done on vacation. Your point is to interact with the environment in a way that is enjoyable and you don't need supplies for that. But getting through a work or regular weekday day requires supplies unless you are a lady who lunches. There's no time crunch on vacation so if you can't do thing a) because you don't have supply b), you just rework your schedule to do it later when you have the thing. But trying to be productive for non pleasure has a less forgiving time table that would really irritate you if your day got thrown because no pen, no menstrual product, no notebook or laptop, or whatever thing you needed to continue to be productive.

This is true. We need things more on a day to day basis, that we're just prepared for whatever may be. Plus I can be detoured easily during my commute, so I anticipate being stuck in traffic with a snack and some water. Weather changes going in and out of buildings, so a sweater joins my purse.

When I travel, I don't worry much, I feel I'm better planned for whatever may happen. I just carry a tiny bag of meds just in case with my absolute essentials, of money/wallet, lip balm, phone. When I travel, I know where I'm going, so I can accommodate an extra item if needed in my WOC, such as hand sanitizer for more outdoor activities.

Basically, on vacation, it's easier to buy whatever I need at the time than to lug it all around "just in case."

I also drive, so carrying a bunch of stuff isn't hard to do because it sits in my car more than it's in my hand.

But since I drive, I could leave some stuff in the car and at work. Like the notepad and pen, the sweater. Some I can't, they'd go bad in the heat (meds and food), but I could leave some at work to minimize the amount in my bag.

But if I just carried the bare minimum, what would be the point of all my bags?

Imagine only having wallet on chains, or small bags? Lol. Kinda...enticing.

I also have some papers in my bag on a day to day basis. I don't need them when on travel. Also I don't need all my cards and keys. Maybe makeup pouch as well. I really get your question as I have the same myself!!!

I have 4 kids and a husband with a wallet the size of a big Mac. Whenever we are somewhere, they all give me stuff to hold. Including that massive wallet. So even if I pared down to just a chain wallet, I would end up needing a backpack to be my family's pack mule. So a roomy purse that serves as a mommy Mary Poppins carpet bag (fits more than it looks, in a pinch) but also seems fine with just my things, works best. I carry an ipad, cosmetic bag, continental wallet and phone/keys. A very narrow bag of pens and water, too. Maybe some gum and a bar of chocolate sometimes. :)

Speaking of my continental wallet on a chain that just arrived!!!!IMG_1489301929.661321.jpgIMG_1489301942.429339.jpgIMG_1489301954.093793.jpg

Laurel dasso made me this with 24 card slots! You cannot find one for love or money. 16 is usually the max, so I'm thrilled to actually have 1 slot empty and see everything so easily! Phone and lippie and chain when not in use fits fine in there, double gusset works great and it always closes without a struggle. Great black kidskin leather. I chose the catch on the front from the catalogue and am not unimpressed. I have 3 very similar locks on premier bags/SLG and this one seems just as luxe, just no engraved logo of course!
Anyways I've been paring down my cards but I can't seem to go under 23, so I'm thrilled to get them all into this. It's way shorter than the height on my tory Burch Robinson chain wallet so instead of being paperback size and seeming more like a mini bag than wallet, this one is definitely solidly in the continental wallet size range and feels totally natural as wallet without chain in use and fine using the wristlet strap or chain. It's so perfect! I love the free feeling of being with just the essentials but hate wondering if that certain customer loyalty/points card is with me or not when running errands. Now I know it is so I can buy cat food without worrying I'll not get the 2% back at the end of the quarter or whatever ridiculous discount it actually is that makes me a slave to cards. It just eats at me to think that we joined whatever club for whatever discounts but then we don't get them because I don't swipe the card. I have honestly wondered if I'm insane for caring and carrying them around because it probably isn't that much savings annually. But even if I got rid of those 12, I would have 11 indispensable ones left, which is more slots than most wallets have, so I would still be scrounging to find ones that have 12+. So I am just embracing my card filled life.

Speaking of laurel dasso,
I think the neverfull is such a great bag but I want something one of a kind. I have an ingenious idea to get the same type of bag but be 1000% original. So, my mom paints and I love her artwork. I'm going to print up two favorite paintings (altered to only sepia tones) on canvas (spoonflower.com) , have laurel dasso coat the canvas and build me a tote in MM dimensions with black and brown leather trim. Damier ebene is lovely but my mom's artwork will make me even happier, plus being totally unique.

Was it Dcooney4 who paints? Maybe that's an idea for those of you who would be into a coated canvas bag that's totally unique, with your artwork as the design, with leather trim. At the very least I'll be showing you guys pix of my tote this summer when I get it!

Can you guys show me what you carry in your toiletries pouch? We have discussed it several times lately about downsizing and I want to know if I'm being excessive.
Here's the pouch in my 1 year old's lap. 12oz /350g
It contains :

Xylitol gum
Small mason Pearson brush
Lip balm, colored
Lipstick
Lip gloss x2
Hand lotion
Shea butter
Mascara
Tweezers
Intimate wipe
Blister cushion
Single use brush/floss
Single use toothpick Brush
Two band aids
Headache medicine
Paulas choice instant teeth whitener
Two crumpled but clean tissues

OK that's a lot. I realize most of it is mouth related. I can manage with only one lip product and one post meal mouth management device instead of 3 types. Just the gum should do it. I never use the teeth whitener even though it really is effective. And I think lotion or Shea butter but not both.

Anyways I would love to see your daily toiletries!

That's a really good idea. Check out Society6. They are doing this kind of service, transferring art into daily ware/household object. You may not use those artists (the catalog is massive! Anyone can join.) but perhaps you can get some idea. [emoji4]

Nothing glamorous here. In that simple dragonfly pouch that you saw, the front compartment is reserved for DD's elastic rubber band for the hair.

IMG_1489318382.903030.jpg

Then, inside are
- 2 bandaids
- 2 Tylenol
- some candies, for both DD and I
- the glass tube with silver cap and green label you saw is the local multipurpose oil. You can use it as inhaler when someone is about to faint, massage on the tired muscle, put on the bug bite to prevent swallowing, or smell it just to freshen the spirit. I always have one with me. Sometimes, just different brands, but there'll always one.
- the transparent green bottle on the white ziplock bag is the eye drop.
- the silver bag with Japanese cartoon (Anpanman) character is the special bandaids for DD when she gets the mosquito bites (the oil gives off a "too hot" feeling for her.)
- a thumb drive that can be used on iPhone.
- a tinted lip cream

This is all I take with me everyday. Someday, I may add a special lipstick for the day, but these are the staple.

I also stash a bill and some extra name card in there, just in case.

There're slots on one wall of the pouch and they help me organize the inside.

Yeah it's great for my wallet but I'm bored with my wardrobe.

I'm planning on getting rid of a lot more and getting something new simply because I am bored.

It's so weird to have all this funding accumulate, and have a lack of wishlist.

Perhaps the passion is changing.

This also comes late, but I wanted to ask: Have you thought about sports or cultural activities or volunteer work? Great ways to spend time (and money) which might give you a good feeling, too...
