Ahhh. Going a little crazy, just saw there's Disneyland and California Adventure Starbucks Christmas mug ornaments and mugs!!

But going to Disneyland is out of the question since I'm saving for London. The ticket prices are higher than I've ever paid.

I actually thought of asking DH to buy this for me in France (where it's less expensive) on their port call there this December but with the terrorist attacks and all, I'll pass this one up for now. I think it just made me patiently wait for the DE.

Going on a mini holiday to Vegas this weekend and have to figure out what to wear and what to bring. Thinking I might bring my MJ quilted flap and stay in my RM jealous satchel or I move into my Gucci Sukey. So excited. I haven't been to Vegas in 5 years. First trip without kiddos too! Woohoo!

I don't currently have a twilly, I managed to find a small silk scarf among my stored stuff that I wrapped around my Linea Pelle bag. This is the bag I posted before which I think could use some embellishment - a charm or a twilly. (Excuse the dirty mirror.)

Have you read the KonMari book? She believes in this, likely as part of her Shinto religion. She's Japanese, and the book was clearly written for a Japanese audience. She talks about emptying your bag each day, because your bag serves you all day faithfully, carries all your stuff, even when it's full to the point of bursting, and it deserves a rest at the end of the day. She also talks about how your clothes and books and other belongings become dormant when they sit without being used and for this reason you should pick them up and handle them before you decide whether or not to get rid of them. They will come back to life and speak to you when you handle them. She often talks about objects as if they have souls and feelings.


In news for me, I got a bite on my Coach Turnlock Tote listing I hope she follows through and buys it.

I listened to the e-book version on YT. And yes, I heard she said these things. I tried to do that with my bag, emptied it at night then put back everything in the morning. Was able to keep up for only a couple of days. Hehe

I normally dress myself first then think about the bag I'd carry with it.

But if you're having doubt about whether or not you should change, I think you should go with what feel right at the moment. If you will feel guilty to the first bag, carry the first bag. I'm sure the second bag will understand since it comes later, right? But if you think you can get away with the second one and that the first one will understand, just change into the second one. (I have this weird feeling that every objects has its own soul and that they can really "feel" something. Blame it on my childhood reading and some weird stuff I saw on TV back then. But even now, I still have a feeling like that so.... There's a reason I don't criticize my stuffs out loud for fear they'll hear and it'll hurt their feeling. Weird, I know.)

Not weird at all because I can relate . I do this especially with our old car. It's still with us even after we bought a new one last July. Whenever I drive the old one, I don't compare it with the new one, (well, not aloud, haha!) And when we get through tough alleyways easily and overtake a really long line of cars in the highway (well, I have some Fast and the Furious moments, you know), I pat it and tell him "Good boy!".. Now, who's weirder? LOL!!!

What's considered essential in your bag?

If I'll be bringing a small bag, these will be my essentials (and hope I can just carry these even with a big bag):

- medium-sized wallet
- cellphone & small battery pack
- small foldable Japanese fan (I feel hot and sweat easily (eek!) almost all the time; our climate isn't really helping)
- compact powder, lip gloss & lipstick
- mints (to bust sleepiness)
- small wet wipes
- mini alcohol bottle
- Advil
- small comb
- ballpen (I never leave the house without one)

And this is the mini-bag I carried - just got too tired of carrying a tote all week and wanted to lighten up. I don't think I can do this on a regular basis, even on weekends, but nice to have this little cutey for the off-chance I can.

I'm the worst person to ask this, because my answer is 'everything' haha. I like to be prepared and am so bad at down-sizing, most of my bags are medium sized satchels and they weigh a lot. I like to be prepared for anything. I switched into a mini bag this weekend only because I knew I was going to one place and coming straight home - i downsized to a card holder to hold my essential cards, lip balm, external phone charger, eye drops, granola bar (I'm pretty sure I could have left home without that since I was going to eat lol) and I fit my key holder and phone in my winter jacket pocket. Normally, I carry several pouches to carry random stuff, a small note book, full sized wallet, and sometimes a pencil case for work... I really need to stop lugging around so much.

Sounds like me. I also want to be prepared for anything. Last Friday, I downsized and was contemplating if I need to bring my mesh pouch carrying first aid items. I thought well, we'll just be doing groceries, what bad thing could happen to me? And then right after alighting our car, I stepped back and didn't notice DD was already behind me and to avoid falling on top of my 3-year old and literally crushing her, I got out of balance and fell on one knee! Ouch!!! Where are my antiseptic and band aids when I need them?!?! :cry:

Hello! I wanted to drop a line and let you know that I have been away from TPF and keeping myself otherwise occupied. Our family is making some adjustments in our life and that has kept me busy.

We are helping our kids with buying their first home. We have been looking and trying to decide what to get in a price range that works but still in a decent school district. Both kids are single and don't have plans to have kids in the near future (to my knowledge) but wanted them to understand how location plays a big factor. It's tough in our market as it's very expensive around where we live.

With this upcoming expense, I am going to try and go on a real ban. In order for me to stay true to that I have to limit my time on TFP and keep myself busy. I am going to try and keep active here but in a low key way. My problem is that I tend to wander into other threads and I get off track. Lol.

Since my last post, I did pick up a couple of things. I bought a Kate Spade rose gold planner that I love [emoji173]️. Then of course when I was there I saw a mini purse that was in the clearance section. I bought it. Think it's the mini romy but I really don't know anything about her bags. I was caught in the moment and still wonder if I should keep her. If I had been on my ban at the time I would have tried to resist more.

Recently I have not even carried a purse when going to work. Just throwing everything into a Henry Bendel freebie tote I got a few years ago. Otherwise I am still in my Julian during the weekends.

DC, Congrats on your new Julian mentioned a few posts up! I know you will enjoy her as I have. Glad to be twinsies with you!

I also want to wish everyone else well with shopping in your closets, finding new homes for your bags, buying new bags and resisting bags. I will pop in periodically but with year end sales going on, I will need to be extra strong to avoid temptation. I will be realistic and not ever say that I won't buy anything but it will be only very small items and even then I should be more strict with myself.

I decided to start selling in small spurts. DBF was warning me not to sell my LV, H, and Chanel because I would waste more money rebuying them later.

So I'm selling other things that are not my highest end bags, and I will limit myself to only one bag in London.

Really trying to be focused on shopping my closet until then, and to really limit my spending.

I may choose to sell a couple LVs, but I'll wait until I really can part with them. I couldn't put any of them in a sell pile. [emoji29] it's too hard.

About funding your home, take baby steps on selling your stuff. I'm sure both you and your DBF are working really hard to buy your new home. When you have your priorities in mind, it will remind you to be more careful with your purchases. Either you truly make a sweet sacrifice of not buying at all or if you can't totally ban yourself, at least you can limit what you'll buy. Then just put the money you make in your sales straight to your home fund.

As you save, picture the house you'll be buying just like a jigsaw puzzle slowly getting complete as you put more money towards your home fund Do you have a time frame for saving for your new home's downpayment? Or a target date to buy the house?

Then I made a list of all the obstacles we would need to find solutions for if we were to make such a big move. For us it was not only money, but schools, the need of a second car because we would be moving to the county with no mass transit and other things. By having that house picture where I constantly saw it really helped me focus and not only was I able to save I figured out all the other obstacles as well.

I don't normally talk to my bags, exception is when I have to say sorry to them for banging them into some other object or wall or when I caused a scratch or something. And I add a little caressing too.

Essentials? 2 pouches with personal stuff like lip balm, travel makeup powder, tissues, medicine, crayons (kids), and a few other little items. Wallet, keys, and phone.

Do I change bags? I actually dress around a bag. I know it sounds crazy but I can't not coordinate bags with my outfits. If I'm going to be in workout gear all day, I'm in a longchamp for the day.

I've still been good about changing bags. Last 2 weeks I was in my Burberry I got last year for my birthday. I like to wear bags around the time of year I got them to remind me of happy memories. I'm currently in my RM jealous satchel I got two years ago for that birthday. I also started a new position that I have to go into the office 2-3 times a week so I needed to tote around a lap top. I'm using my Chloe Allison tote for that. It's perfect for folders and notebooks and everything else under the sun.

That's good about changing bags! And I guess the new position is a welcome one? Congrats! Enjoy Vegas! I was there 2003, such a long time ago!! I'm sure it has changed a lot.

Today I was at Nordstrom and saw that bucket bag I liked in person. It was very pretty but I would have hated trying to get in and out of it and the strap was too thin for my sensitive shoulders. So glad I did not order it sight unseen because it would have been returned.

This is my problem, buying without trying. And I'm in such a faraway place that returns are practically impossible. It's good that you can finally get this bag out of your system. I really envied your resolve not to buy this.

It's on Tradesy, so we haven't met. She did ask me to lower the price once and I did. Then she mentioned the factory site, and I did ask her for the link. I do think it's likely a tactic to reduce the price again. Or the bag on the factory site is not the same as the one I'm selling.

IME, the bags on the factory site are only a season or two old. My bag is at least 2 years old, so it would surprise me if it showed up on the factory site at this point.

If her price is not acceptable for you then maybe you should wait for another buyer. Another will come, I'm sure.

Yes! I was thinking about it last night after I see the pantone swatch. It would be lovely. A rose quartz Minerva in Merino. (I even have a weird idea of changing the flap's color into black since very likely this one will be a bespoke bag. I have to keep reminding myself that this is not a new year yet. I shouldn't be plotting on getting a new bag, but oh... well... Or should I have it in black with that pink color as a flap? Not that I'm big on color block, but I just love my bag to have a little more of something lately. )

Your essential sounds a lot like mine. And I tend to carry in bulk and some more. I keep telling myself there's a reason I can't go minimalism for long. But my shoulders and people around me don't seem to agree on me carrying such a load.

I'm not sure about the colorblock for the flap. The leather for it starts inside, I think it is a bit weird to have one side in one color and the other in another albeit inside the bag, IMO. But you can ask Marco about it when the time is right for you.

My neck and shoulders don't agree with heavy loads too, that's why I'm really trying not to bring the kitchen sink in my bag.

On the house front, I've been contemplating on selling a majority of my collection to fund my house down payment. It's like my last resort, if my overtime hours isn't enough to boost the fund. I'm looking at whatever I can sell at this point, to help fund that down payment before I resort to selling my bags.

I'm even thinking that I won't buy a bag in London, so I won't spend too much money.

I agree with your DBF for you not to sell some of your classic pieces, you will likely want to have them again in the future, and they will be even more expensive to have then. I mentioned some time ago this year that I also have an expense regarding some real property. I am trying to manage that currently (one of the motivating factors for bag downsizing) but at the same time I cannot totally ban myself from bags because if I do I would have some feeling of depravity, which could be totally not healthy too for me. I wanted a YSL Moujik before, but I couldn't bring myself to buy in that price range because of this other expenditure. So I buy something much cheaper, some pre-loved (I'm not saying you go that route though). But, since my bag inventory exercise in September plus my October purchases, I really think there is not a style I still need so my resolve is getting stronger, but I'm not yet there, I know. In fact next year, I know I will get at least one bag (Massaccesi).

So for me, you have to strike a balance. You said you are doing a lot of overtime. So maybe you can reward yourself from time to time, something smaller maybe. But the focus on the house should not go away.

Yes, a family gathering, but only our immediate family and the family of a first cousin. Not a very very big group. But do you know that the eldest niece in our family already has a child and another niece is gonna give birth soon (2 sisters of mine married in their early 20s and had kids early). So I am already a "lola" really.

So true, they even limited the So-Cal Annual passes, the other passes are absurd. I used to pay $500 for the premium year pass (something like that). Now it's like over $1000.

I say read the Konmarie book, even if it doesn't get you to completely clean out. It helps curb bringing things in.



I keep my payment cards in my wallet. Then my card case (or a wristlet) for the loyalty cards, gift cards, etc. This way it's on hand, but if you gotta go with minimal things, it's a lot easier.







I definitely started carrying less when I started getting bad headaches. They said it was stress on top of tension on my back, shoulders, neck. The moment I lightened the load, the headaches lost their intensity.

I got the kids length because I'm 5'2" and the adult ones I have require so many loops to not be ridiculously long on me. For the light weight scarves it's fine, but for the winter scarves where I'm already wearing a coat and just need the neck to be covered, the kids length is perfect.



Also, googled Lauren Bacall, and omg. She's pretty and I wish my hair would be like hers. Mine is too thick and straight to do anything with, haha.



The scarf bar has soooo many options, so even if camel isn't your color, there's a lot of other options to choose from.

The fun part is that it's still made in Scotland and will be embroidered in Scotland.



DBF and I were oogling every scarf displayed. So many weights and textures to choose from, though I think the embroidery is only on the winter wool scarves.







Haha, there are times during my lunch break I wish I brought my coloring book, because I'm trying to not spend my break times looking at the computer screen. I'll have to figure out what I can take out of my bag (again, random items that seem to live there despite not being the essentials I need daily), to see if I can have the weight of a coloring book and pencils on me.

Maybe I should find time to empty and reorganize my bag everyday, but most of the day, I just left it there and go do something else and won't pick it up again until it's time to leave the house. I'll just add the item of the day in and I'm good to go.

I do the dividing the card, too, but after a while, even the card case is stuff to the brim. I somehow just want them with me , just in case. It's the mentality, I think.

I had a very bad migraine last week. Maybe it's part of the reason? My bag was also very heavy on that day. I know carrying too much is bad for the shoulder. But this is the first time I hear it also affect the head.

Shopping in the scarf bar seems like fun time. I've never been to one. We don't have it here. Maybe it's the new service?

Why don't you get the desk calendar with the doodle exercise? This way, you don't have to carry the book to work. I buy one for myself every year. It's the first thing I do when I get in my office. There's one new activity for every day. I think the artist is Taro Gomi. You can just left the color set at work and if you can't get it done, tear that page for the day out and take it home with you to do it later. And since adult coloring is very popular this year, I think some publishers may come out with the calendar idea.

I'm currently in my RM jealous satchel I got two years ago for that birthday. I also started a new position that I have to go into the office 2-3 times a week so I needed to tote around a lap top. I'm using my Chloe Allison tote for that. It's perfect for folders and notebooks and everything else under the sun.

Going on a mini holiday to Vegas this weekend and have to figure out what to wear and what to bring. Thinking I might bring my MJ quilted flap and stay in my RM jealous satchel or I move into my Gucci Sukey. So excited. I haven't been to Vegas in 5 years. First trip without kiddos too! Woohoo!

Yay! Vegas! I've been there forever! Last time I was there was like 2003. I didn't play and ended up blowing lots of money in Sephora. Oh... And how I miss traveling without kids that's not a business trip. Next year, maybe I'll get sometime for my alone trip. I hope you have fun!

I carry some color pens and crayon for DD, too.

Today I was at Nordstrom and saw that bucket bag I liked in person. It was very pretty but I would have hated trying to get in and out of it and the strap was too thin for my sensitive shoulders. So glad I did not order it sight unseen because it would have been returned.

I'm glad to hear you went to see it IRL. Now, there's no regret or wonder left.

Bakeacookie, I agree with others. Keep your favorite pieces, you will miss these and might want to buy again.



I have also sorting out my bags and have some listed on EBay. My experience during last years has been that this time of the year is the best time to sell. Let's see if this is still true. Good luck to other sellers!
