I buy great bags and drive a kinda crappy car (but own my home). Why? I enjoy my bags, but my car is a means to an end. I wouldn't get the incremental $20,000 worth of enjoyment out of a nicer car, when all I want is to arrive at my destination safely.
My bags on the other hand--I would hate carrying a crappy bag--it would just feel icky--kind of like wearing cheap (poorly made) shoes.

I don't ever see fakes where I live except for the reeeaaally bad ones that don't even have LVs on them just weird shapes or something like that. Here on the North Coast I've probably only seen two other people with LV. They are not much into designer stuff here. (Can't wait to move back to the Bay Area someday)
As for cars/house I have a 2003 VW Golf that I love and would never sell. I rent a house and am quite happy doing so. I have owned two houses before and really it is just not that big a deal to me. I like knowing that I don't ever have to worry about fixing anything in this house. And there is no way I'd be able to buy a house for the rent I am paying. It is a really good price. So I am happy. :D

I think any time a new bag comes out, there will be fakes. :sad2: It seem like a new bag comes out and two weeks at most and there's a fake already. I notice most people who buy fakes buy the ones that mimic the "it" bags or the newest ones. So, I guess with every new bag there will be a new fake. :suspiciou

There has actually been a big increase in fakes at my school. You're pretty much guaranteed to see at least three fakes without even really looking while walking down a single hallway. In my school, have seen fake LV, fake Fendi, fake Chanel, fake Prada, fake Coach, fake Gucci, and fake Dooney. It's ridiculous. I have only seen about five people (including myself) with real LV. It's sad. A girl in my Spanish class told me she was looking into getting a fake Chanel. I told her about all the bad things fakes support...I hope she listened...

About buying versus renting-----I agree on the whole buying if you can. I bought my house at 22 and here 7 years later it has doubled in value. On paper I'm one rollin woman ;) In tue life.......I wont really see any of those profits until I move and I don't feel like I will move for many years. So my house is my retirement/inheritance for any children I have. But it is wonderful knowing that if worse came to worse I could sell my house and live comfortably.

That is called security! I always feel like a mortgage payment is really like a savings account. I didnt feel like I could own in my early twenties mainly because I wasnt educated enough to understand that I could. It drives me nuts to see people rent if they can do otherwise.

......ran in Walgreen's just last evening to pick up a script and as they are always one speed, slow as hell; you have to wait and wait and wait....

A little bit off the topic, but prescription filling process is not only putting the tablets in a bottle and give it to you, there is a long process where each prescription has to go thru to make sure patients are getting the right treatment.. you didnt wait because they are slow, you waited b/c your prescription had to go thru a process of entering, filling and verificiation!

As far as the topic goes, I did not notice a decline in fakes, in the contrary, i am noticing more and more out there

I still see a lot of fake LVs around here. Mostly Speedies with feet or MC pieces with all the wrong colors. Sometimes I wonder if these people even know they're carrying fakes. A lot people can't tell the difference and just think they're getting a good deal when they buy that "authentic" MC Speedy for $200.

Fakes are here to stay. It's weird but I have friends who'd rather buy a fake than buy a pre-owned authentic Louis Vuitton reason being that they don't like 'used' items and rather pay wee bit over a hundred for a supposed AAA grade. I have tried to make them see the point but last I saw, one of them was carrying a badly made 'AAA' speedy.

If there's any forumite who travels around the Asian region, you'd be sure to see badly done fakes to Super Fakes (Mostly from Korea). They display them openly and there are still many ppl who just want to look like they're carrying the real thing but are too cheap to buy one from the boutique.

I very rarely see fakes nowadays...people realize that it's a major fashion faux paux to wear fakes...althought as long as they're still making fakes, there'll be people buying it..

what state do you live in? Im in PA and the fakes are every where here. And they are not even good ones...they are so laughably fake.

As long as people continue to buy fakes and not educated about the real stuff cos' sadly to say, some old aunties still do not know about the COVETED WORD: AUTHENTIC LOUIS VUITTON. They just buy cos' they think it's the latest trend.

wow, that is impressive to me that you bought a house at 22. That is something to be proud of. Wish I was that smart at 22!

I don't think fakes will ever go away. I live in Manila and fake designer bags, shoes, watches, belts, etc are openly being sold in bazaars and flea markets. There are poor quality fakes which sell for around US$20 and there are the good quality fakes that these merchants call Grade A, which sells for around US$100. The thing that really really really irratates me is that most people who shop in bazaars and flea markets think that the Grade A LV bags sold there are REAL. I have seen quite a number of women using their LV bags with the PAPER or PLASTIC LV tags still attached to their bags because they think that by not removing these stupid things will prove that their bags are real. I just do not understand why Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci, Prada (they have stores here) are not asking the police to confiscate these fake items.
