chaz, I love your ring! I've heard you mention it before and wondered what it looked like. It is gorgeous.

Thank you sweetie!! Its very precious to me,especially as its an old cut it would be almost impossible to replace, its not the most huge of diamonds I could have had a bigger, better, whiter one but that special thing happened the moment I set eyes on it,the sort of language that only your heart fully understands but defies all logic when you try and translate it!!! I was smitten!!!

My friend and I compared our rings. She has a 2.8ct 4 prong and I a 2.7ct 6 prong, because of the prongs mine looks bigger. Something else to think about. Either way both are beautiful, however the Harry Winston 8 prong, which looks like four is fabulous. Extra safe and clean.

I have been looking at photos of 3 carats trying to decide as well.
My jeweler recommends 6 although I *thought* I wanted 4.
I noticed that 4, while it looks great, it tends to sqaure off the diamond a bit, a 6 prong makes the round look very round.
KWIM?

I agree. I have a 3ct round and have it set with 6 prongs, just looks better to ME....and since I'm the one wearing it figure that's all that matters! LOL

How is your hunt going for your diamond? Have you found "the" one? :graucho:

I think so:yes:
DH is trying to keep it a secret but he's not all the great at that! LOL! He says I have to wait until Christmas:cry:
I'll be working on him to try and get it before! LOL!

Have you posted photos yet?

Hello, iconic, I am having a 3 ct stone set in a 4 prong mount, the prongs are split and the shank is 3mm. One thing to consider is the girdle of your stone....if it's very thin then I would go for 6 prongs to protect the "very thin" area(s) from chipping should you happen to bang it against something.

My stone was in a 6 prong mount but I wanted a clearer side view of my stone. And, I like the squared way it makes my diamond look.

For a stone of the size you're asking about, I would go custom. You can work with the designer as I did and just design the ring yourself.

I have a 3.5 carat round stone with 4-prongs, but each of those prongs is a "double claw," so it's like each prong is made up of two small, pointed prongs. I like the extra feeling of security this gives, and it looks elegant too. (not squared off at all, since the prongs are all very delicate-looking)

You gals sound like you have the most gorgeous rings. Anyone wants to share pictures?

I have a 2.1 Pear shaped center ring and 2 Trillions on the sides (.70 total weight or something like that). The center stone has 3 prongs and the prong that's on the tip is the V prong. I'll try to take a picture....

Here are my e-ring and band set in 18K yellow and 18K white gold...

I don't use these rings as much anymore b/c it's too big for the line of work I'm in. Also, DH just changed to white gold so I have my white gold wedding band on.
