superb negotiating skills :D you could take your small diamonds you have left over and make a very thin stacking band to go with your new ring? you would have super modern and clean ring with a sprinkle of sparkles on a tiny stacking band!?

I apologize for all of my posts on this subject! I never thought I would be so consumed by it all!!

There were a few things I did not like about the bezel/bridge setting. It seemed a little bit "hard" to me, and I did not like the way the bezel sat over the stone. I think I have resolved all of my issues and have settled on the below ring. Same concept as the original bezel, but I like the way that the bezel sits under the stone a bit, and I also like that there is no "bridge" connecting the band. Opinions?? My husband and I have a meeting set up for next Friday with the jeweler! Oh...and although I think the diamonds on the band are gorgeous...mine will not have diamonds.

Thanks Ahertz for all of the photos! I cannot believe I started that original thread 2 years ago!

Thanks so much for the comments. It feels nice to finally have it all settled in my head. I surprised myself by being so obsessed with finding the right thing!

not surprising at all...you'll be wearing this ring every day. you haven't worn your e-ring in years because you don't like the style. that is proof that the design of this ring is very important.

soooooooooo excited to see your reveal when you get your updated ring!

OK ladies....you guys are going to think I am CRAZY!!!! I wore my ring last night and started to imagine it as just a simple solitaire (north-south). My husband has not been excited about this process AT ALL...although he did agree to a reset. Today we were talking about it and he told me that he hates the idea of the diamond being set east-west. This was after I had made a trip to the mall and tried on a classic solitaire marquis. Now I am torn on what to do. He likes my original setting (which he designed), but I explained that I wanted something more simple....I do love the simplicity of the ring I tried on today, which makes me doubt my commitment to the east-west ring!!! AAAAhhhhhhh......it would certainly be easier for me to go with a traditional mount. Now I am totally bumfuzzled about the whole thing.

P.S. The ring below is a 1.5 carat marquis for reference.

Your E-W setting is ALSO simple, and quite gorgeous! If I'm reading your post correctly, I think you're considering buying a new marquis stone to set while keeping your engagement ring as-is (since your DH designed your original setting, I can understand why he's a bit attached to it - and it's meaningful), right? If so, you can then set your new stone E-W. When you really want to please your DH, you can wear your orig ring, N-S. When you feel like being your modern, trend-setting, stylish self, you can wear your E-W ring. I bet your DH would be amenable to buying you a new stone, since it keeps the original intact. Problem solved!!! :graucho:

That might work out nicely anyway - by the looks of the 1.5 ct on you, I think setting it E-W will pretty much cover the width of your finger. Your original (bigger) stone may more than cover your finger. I like the look/idea of an E-W stone almost covering the width, but not more so.

^honestly, I wouldn't go by what your DH says. usually men are very traditional & conservative fashion-wise. I think he'll grow to love an E/W setting once he gets used to it. I mean, don't most men usually say their favorite color is blue?

I can't really give you an objective opinion here, much as I'd like to. I LOOOOOOOOOOVE marquis E/W (like catherine zeta jones' e-ring), but I dislike them N/W. I never ever thought I'd like marquis until I saw zeta jones' ring. also, the E/W setting seems MORE simple to me because the stone flows into the band...no stickie outie parts :p

so I say...trust your gut. you like E/W, & you're drawn to it. it will be an adjustment to try something so different, but I don't think you'll regret it.

P.S.S. After looking at that picture, I had to go put lotion on! I have the most horrible dry skin!! My hands look like they belong on my grandmother!
^awwwww...I know how you feel :hugs:

This would be absolutely killer.

Just my two cents on your husbands opinion. Men really do take pride in their womans ring. Your ring now is substantial and blingy. Maybe the "simple" idea isn't meshing with him because to him that is "lesser".
My husband was attached to my setting too. I think the reason why is because he just thought it was "me" and was so fantastic (ie substantial and blingy) he couldn't imagine something better. These were his thoughts, but when he started really seeing other options and how much better they could look...still looking like they were worth a lot, he opened up. I know I could have picked almost anything (except antique) and he would have grown to love it just as much. Oddly in the end I picked pretty much exactly what I had...lol. Apparently something inside of me, even though I wanted something new and different and exciting, also felt the original design was the "most me".
I do LOVE the idea of the E-W. I wonder why he doesn't. Creature of habit? Used to it the way it is and resisting change? Hmm. I feel for you..I do. Wanting to make him happy but just wanting to like your ring enough to wear again....I get it...I've been there.
But I agree with Frick&Frack. He'll adjust. You aren't wearing it as is. And really if all it took was giving his mom a purse to persuade him...he'll adjust :-) I think your ideas are AMAZING. Go with the E-W thing..you've onviously been thinking about it for 2 years now. SO excited to see pictures.
