Funny - I'm mulling over the same issure. I too have a marquis, but a much smaller one set in a YG bezel (which I *really* dislike) with 4 RB side stones. I'm having a very hard time finding a setiing that sings to me... & have strted looking at new centre stones...

Ahertz....yes, I actually have a few!!! I think I have found just the right one, though. I need someone who understands my need for modern yet artistic!

The east-west idea is terrific. A friend of mine did that with her oval ring and it is very unique and modern. It looks fantastic. Please post photos when it is done.

I am very fond of E-W settings, especially with larger stones. I think what you have in mind will look very elegant and modern--and the rose gold setting will give it a custom twist. I hope you post pics when it's completed.

^it's a brilliant idea!!! I absolutely LOVE marquis in an E/W setting! the RG will be gorgeous too. you'll have a very unique ring.

Ame...I adore rose gold and always have! I like it best when the color is similar to my pic #3. I think as the content gets higher (18k) it gets a bit more orange. I like a very gentle rose color. :)

^sounds pretty reasonable in price. is it a ready-made setting or custom?

I agree with you about higher karat RG. I prefer the pinker shade too.

I know the pic is crappy....I took it off my computer screen, as he original was taken with my cell phone. The bezel is very small and you can see the stone suspended underneath.

^that's called a "bridge" setting. I like it. it should keep your stone secure in the setting and on your finger.

OOOhhhhh.....thank you everyone for your replies!!!! I am making an appointment with the jeweler for this weekend (I hope!). My husband finally agreed...although it took some wrangling, and I had to give his Mom a handbag!!! I have (had) a gorgeous small python bag that I bought for @$30 at a secondhand store. We went out Saturday night and his Mom saw the bag and raved about it later on to him. Her asked if I would give it to her (which I would have done with no problem), but when he said,"My Mom really wants that handbag", I said,"I know the feeling...I would really like my ring reset!". So he told me if I would give her the bag...I could get the ring reset done! DEAL! His Mom is living with us right now (she has been going through treatment for colon cancer), and It made her SO HAPPY to have that bag! Anyway...I was a bit pissed for a few minutes that one had to relate to the other....but in the end everyone gets what they want, so I didn't complain!!

F&F....it is definitely going to be a custom setting. Also, thank you for the official name. I am off to google pics!

BRILLIANT negotiating...bravo!:ghi5: you didn't really give up anything since you would have given her the bag anyway!

I know you want a simple setting, but I just have to say one teeny tiny little thing or I couldn't live with myself. what if you had small round diamonds set on the bridge underneath your marquis? they would be your secret, & I just love that. since you wouldn't be able to see them right away when looking at your ring, it would still be a simple setting. maybe 1 diamond for each year of marriage? just a thought...

So funny that you said this! I am actually going to do this, but I thought it would be too hard to explain! I am going to set 3 diamonds in the bridge, one to represent each of our kids.

^^^Nothing quite like a diamond surprise!!! I have enough small diamonds to ice the whole ring (from jewelry that I don't wear), but then I get back to too much bling. I did want to include the 3 though to signify the kiddos!

Oh...and I will definitely post after our meeting! I am a bit nervous that it won't turn out the way that I envision or that my vision isn't that great! Hope it all works out!
