at least i know what to expect when my ink arrives..

NO KIDDING!! It didn't OCCUR me me they'd have the NERVE to charge like that! BIG DUH, I know :smash: but Great God Almighty! Had I even thought they would :censor: me like that, I would have at LEAST looked around for a free shipping coupon. Honestly, what a load of :hs: Almost made Customs look good!!!

Hi Maggien & everyone,

We are suppose to pay 10.5% tarrif only on imported Leather handbags.
i.e. leather handbag $1100CDN (converted from US amount $XXXX)
Duty would be $115.50
GST & PST (14%) $158.02 (based on $1215.50)
Total customs & taxes = 273.52

If your orders are delivered by courier companies, they also charge "process fee" for brokerage service.

Make sure you don't overpay DHL/Purolator/UPS for customs tarrif, from my past experiences they over-charged me duties range from 13%-18% almost everytime. If you paid more than what you supposed to, you can apply for refund from CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency)

That's great info! Thanks SO much. The interesting thing is that of the three bags I've ordered from the States, no matter how I cut it, each time I've been charged a different percentage...AND have been waiting since April for a refund on one that I challenged. Ya gotta love Free Trade! This is really useful info - thanks again!

Yea, I know what you mean, it happened to me many times already. I find some of the people working at those courier companies have no idea about tarrif rate on specific products (leather handbags is under section 4202.22) at all and they don't care, i've given up arguing with them...now if i get overcharged I'd just pay them and turn around applying for refund from CBSA with a copy of invoice from my courier.

^Thanks for the helpful information! I never knew about the refunds and will have to keep that in mind.

Duty and taxes are soo expensive. =(

However, congrats on your new purchase!
