Saffiano Wallet Wear?

Hi there,

I dont usually purchase Prada, however i received a Saffiano wallet for christmas last year.
Within the first couple months i've noticed wear on the corners. Recently i've noticed a lot of wear on edges and a bit on the back where the pocket creases.

I wouldn't say I've been super rough with it and I don't use this wallet all the time. (Sorry for the poor pics)

I'm just wondering what my options are... is there a way to fix it or stop the wear from becoming worse?

It was purchased at a holt renfrew.

Thanks!

Toss up between poor quality, possible abrasion from keys or some other object in your bag or even hand cream/perfume/purell chemically reacting with the leather. I'd take it to Holts and see what they say.

My pink one is the same. I asked about warranty today at the Prada boutique within NM. I was told that basically it's considered wear and tear. You can have it sent off, but you will be charged. All they can do is re-dye where the wear is. The SA also told me that a good shoe repair could do the same, but that the repair will wear again. Doesn't seem to be worth the trouble to me.

IMO all of my bags exhibit corner wear and tear, even my Prada. It's completely normal and not much you can do about it other than take it to a leather repair shop and have them repaint the leather. I also don't think it's worth the hassle. I would probably condition (does saffiano need conditioning though?). Leather is made to withstand use! Wear and tear is normal.

Hello,

I'm new to the forums, so I hope it's ok to post in this thread…:wondering

I basically treated myself to a prada saffiano bow wallet and only with a handful of wears, it's started to peel, it almost looks like I've had it for 2 years rather than 2 weeks!

Is this normal for Prada quality to be so poor? I've contacted prada so am waiting to hear from them, but i'm actually really disappointed with this as I'm in love with the colour of the leather but it's really put a damper on my thoughts of the brand.

Do you guys treat your saffiano leather products prior to use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Saffiano black card case that I use to keep coins in, and I've redyed it by a local leather specialist once. I now redye it myself. It's in need of a redye again as the edges are showing a lot of wear and tear.

I don't treat the leather in any way otherwise. I don't recommend treating the leather, especially with a colour as light as the one on your wallet because some creams/oils can darken the leather.

I suggest bringing your wallet to Prada to see if they can repair or touch up the edges for you. If they can't, then just bring it to a cobbler/leather specialist and they can try their best to match the colour with one of their redying sprays.

Thanks Averagejoe for your response.

I take it this must be something that is normal for prada leather then? I just feel a bit disappointed as I've only had the wallet for 2 weeks and it's looking like that. I'll take it into prada and will keep everyone posted on what happens.

Thanks again

Oh, that is not good! I just got a small wallet in this leather and it feels like plastic....not what I would expect from Prada! I will say all of my Prada bags are Vitello daino and I love them. They wear like iron...

Wow...that's what happened to my wallet too!! 2 weeks after really starting to use it...it started showing those exact signs. ..and its on the inside! Not outside!

When I say starting to use it. ..it's because was purchased 2 months ago, after 3 weeks I opened the wallet and on the corner of the inside, the leather was a tiny little bit worn already. I went back to get it switched, it was past the exchange policy however since I didn't even open it (everything there) I got it exchanged. Boyfriend went overseas so he took the item for like 2 weeks. By the end of the 2 weeks (it was around 25th of last month that he left - our anni is on 28th, and he was overseas =*( ) he bought it back and I realise the leather compartments was not straight it was curvy...I took it back like 2 weeks ago with my saffiano lux med bag (used it 10times roughly, being a student and all) and the gold and leather was coming off!! They were surprised to see how uneven it was...

I'm beginning to hate prada now.. I've bought 2 lv small leather goods (patented ones) since 2 weeks ago. I honestly wish they can improve their quality.
Oh and I got a MK saffiano cross shoulder bag too, and wow!! No issues with the leather anywhere!! Completely fantastic, and less than the price of prada.

Sorry about the rant...you have no idea how upset I am...the wallet was a gift from my bf =**(

update!: so I got it repaired for free at Holt, and it was returned about 6 weeks after. They touched up all the edges so it looks pretty much brand new. They also touched up some of the spots on the front that were discolouring. Overall pretty happy with the repair but I haven't been using the wallet too much in fear that it will wear down again.

That's quite strange.
I have a Prada wallet for more than a year now, didn't baby it but it still looks new, am quite impressed given the abuse it went thru. Only scuff was when I sat on a kerb and accidentally scrape it on the road.

Glad you managed to get it fix tho, I'd say enjoy using it, you can always send it for re dye next time if necessary.
