Hello everyone,

I have found what I believe is the most beautiful dress I've ever seen in my entire life (meet Daffina chiffon ruffle dress by Acne Studios). I've been lusting over it for several moths now, but it was sold out everywhere in my size and the color I wanted (grey/icy blue), since it was originally part of their SS'22 collection - so I had no hope of it ever coming back. However, by some magic, it did. I saw this week that Acne has it back in stock, so I ordered it immediately. I just got it today, and I love everything about it: the cut (that neckline and those ruffles - just oh.my.god), the fit (I am relatively thin, but just not very athletic, so I have some saddle bags on hips, and so I was secretly hoping it just wouldn't fit me, since it's such a light material and that will be that - but it just looks amazing on body), the material, the color. The problem is that it's kinda sheer and has 2 quite noticeable cutouts, so I'm afraid it's just not fitted for (my) life as there's no possible occasion to wear it to for an average person like myself, who doesn't have a very active social life (tragic would probably be the best word to describe mine).

So I'm really torn: on one hand, I am absolutely in love with this dress, I don't think I've ever felt as beautiful and sexy and feminine in any other piece of clothing I've ever owned. On the other hand, I really don't know if I have enough (or any) occasions in my life to wear it to. It seems too dressy for simple drinks at a bar with some girlfriends, too revealing for any work-related dinner or office party... And other than that, there's not much else going on in my life. But then again, I just looove this dress so much that I've been bargaining with myself all day, that maybe my views on what's appropriate and what's not are too restricting? I mean, I'm a grown woman in my early thirties, is it really that inappropriate for me to wear a semi-sheer dress in public? Or that it's actually not that revealing as it seems? Or that maybe if I get an underskirt or an invisible slip dress to wear underneath it, it will be acceptable to wear, say for an office party? Or maybe if I get a blazer in a complementing color, it will be appropriate to wear to some occasions?

I know I can't be the only one on this forum who's ever faced a similar dilemma. Can anyone please share your thoughts about this dress? What do you think - do you like it? Would you say it's too revealing? For which occasions would you wear a dress like this? Do you have experience with wearing slips/skirts under sheer clothing? And finally, would you keep it if you were me or return it?

Just to give you a better idea how transparent the dress is - here are some more photos from different retailers.

Problems:
  • Sheerness:
    • you can make out the leg silhouette (see photo 1),
    • I can also kinda see my belly button in this dress;
    • you can also clearly see underwear (see photo 2 - although the dress is in different color, but it's the same model);
  • Cutouts:
    • there's one asymmetrical cutout on the back (see photo 2 again) - but this one is not that bad I guess,
    • there's a slit on the leg (see photos 3-4) - although since I'm not very tall, it doesn't start that high up on me, also there's a lining which sometimes closes the slit.

85% MY HANDBAGS ARE DOONEY...but I just did something strange

I am loyal to the Dooney brand. The quality and styles have kept me happy as a handbag customer.

I have bored many of you with me closet clear out stories. It is my small Marie Kondo approach in one area of my life. Anyway, I sold two NWT crossbody bags by other designers. One was a chestnut and I have so many shades of brown from neutral to T-moro.

I found a bag I never carried from five years ago. I unwrapped the bag and the color and style was much better than I remembered. My mind was made up and I put it in the sale. Both bags sold right away.

Here's the kicker. I sold the bag for $52.00, and I ordered the newer version of the bag this morning (on sale)--- for $165.00. I'm hopeless!

Lovely Longchamp ladies, i need some help with my decision please. I really can’t decide and I don’t want to order all three as 1) I can’t be bothered with the returns process and 2) it’s likely I will convince myself I need all 3, which of course I do not .. right?

Do I get the Le Painier in green, pink or tan? I have only seen the pink colourway IRL. I know we don’t need pictures but here you go ..

Hubby and mum thinks Cartier but hard to look away from the Chaumet.

short people and celine nano luggage

I've been eyeing the celine nano luggage on the preloved market. I have seen lots of youtube videos with mod shots. It appears that the strap isn't adjustable, and I prefer to wear my bags crossbody. I'm 5"3 and I think the strap would be too long for me, based on the videos I saw. For those of you 5"3 and under, how is the strap on you? I'm thinking that this bag might not be the one for me.

Do you notice less people carrying LV?

This just my observation, obviously.. but l live in an area that's considered upper middle class or wealthy-ish, and I rarely see women carrying LVs on the daily anymore. If I do, it's an old beat-up Neverfull but that's about it.

It seems like everyone is wearing the Lululemon crossbody belt bags or some other brand of belt bag. I myself have also stopped carrying one as my every day bag and switched over to the Lululemon belt bag several months ago. It's quick and convenient. I have two small LV purses now (the Eva and the Loop) which I only pull out now for date nights or going out with friends.

It's weird.. generally I feel embarrassed to carry anything lower than LV (just being real here) - like I would never carry a Nine West purse, but I am totally fine wearing a $39 Lululemon belt bag because they are in style and everyone else here is wearing them.

Has anyone else noticed this in their areas?

What should I buy?

Which of the following should I purchase now?

  • Cartier Juste un Clou ring + Loewe puzzle bag

Hi there!

2 months ago, I was at my local Chanel boutique and tried on the Chanel 19 bag (small/black) and loved it. Unfortunately I did not purchase it right away and when I went back a few days later, every Chanel 19 in small/black in Sydney had sold out, I ended up putting my name on the waitlist.

Fast forward a few weeks, I’m still waiting for that phone call from my SA but the price has just gone up by almost $800 AUD (from $9090 to $9880). So now, I’m questioning if it’s actually worth it. I have a very small Chanel collection: Medium Reissue, Old medium Boy, and a small Chanel Gabrielle which I love and is hands down my most used Chanel bag. I would love to get a Chanel Classic Flap in medium or small (I had a chance to get a small CF in the Tiffany blue colour in 2018 in store but didn’t get it and that’s been my biggest regret so far!). Having said that, I don’t think I’ll get that much use out of a Classic Flap since I hardly ever use my Reissue and Boy, but when I use my Reissue, I do think it’s very functional bag and I love all the compartments/pockets.

So should I:

  • Bite the bullet and get a Chanel Classic Flap knowing it’ll be a forever bag even though I won’t be using it every day. But what handbag collection is without a Chanel CF?!
  • Get the Chanel 19 bag to use as an everyday bag, knowing that it might no longer be “on trend” in a few years and possibly discontinued like the Gabrielle bag (I still use mine though)
  • Get a Cartier Juste un Clou ring to match my bracelet (I think there will be a price increase at Cartier soon) + a small Loewe puzzle bag (I went and tried it on in store and loved it, and I don’t’ have a bag like that in my collection yet).

Thanks for your suggestion and help!

March 2023 Price Increase

Haven’t seen any thread specifically about this, but if there is feel free to delete and move.

The medium CF in leather on US app (I presume website as well) is now more than USD $10k no longer “just” $8800. What do you guys think?

Will they go the direction of Hermes and hide away CF in the back room saying there are none in stock lol? In my recent experience the CF in certain cities (and also minis) are for sure not yet to the level of birkins and Kelly’s in terms of hard to get. I think the west coast is a little harder to be shown good Chanel bags from my limited recent experience.

This definitely throws a wrench in my search to complete my CF collection, was looking for one more in light grey caviar SHW medium. While I’m fortunate enough to not definitely be priced out it is off putting considering the quality. I’m hesitant to buy preloved Chanel in particular due to the quality not being too hard to replicate (as compared to Hermes probably).

Gucci Ophidia Small Shoulder Bag- Question

Hello,

I was considering purchasing the Gucci Ophidia Small Shoulder Bag. I am 5’5” for reference and am concerned that the bag may not sit well as a crossbody. Can Anyone around the same height or taller who has this bag please shed some light on this? ( mod shots would be great too ). I am not finding enough pictures or reviews online on this front.
Thank you in advance!

Cartier Milestone Celebrations

Hi! Last summer I received my first piece of Cartier jewelry, a classic Trinity ring to celebrate some special milestones. I thought it would be nice to share our special stories. Here is mine:

My best friend from college gave it to me my ring as a birthday gift. Neither of us have a sister and both of our mothers recently died, so we are like sisters. I chose the three ring piece to celebrate my three children, my three decades of marriage and my three decades of sobriety. When I look at it, I think of all of these wonderful things and of course, my dear friend.

What milestone did your Cartier piece mark?

Are people really no longer wearing their Chanel bags because others (mostly strangers) stare at them and whisper?

I’ve been seeing this sentiment pushed on youtube and even on TPF. Are people really allowing the opinions and looks of strangers to dictate whether or not they will carry and wear their bags?

Some people are saying that the impending recession makes them look and appear vapid when others are barely able to cover their bills or put food on the table. Unfortunately, that’s not really your issue or business to worry about. Yet, I’m seeing that many Chanel owners feel this way and believe it’s their duty not to make others feel bad and to make them feel more comfortable (by not wearing the bag or any of their items out).

I can understand the reason being a safety concern (personally, I’m not saying I’d wear my CF out in just any particular area). The reason why I and everyone else purchased the bag is because we liked it, wanted it and were able to afford to purchase it.

I can’t imagine spending what I did on my bag to never wear it out or hide it in unknown and invisible bags because other people might stare. People will always feel a way about something but you can’t do anything about or control that. You also shouldn’t let that stop you from enjoying the things you work hard to indulge in as well.

I’m not going to stop wearing Chanel out. I live in one of the bigger cities in America, so I see luxury purses, shoes, coats and clothing on an every day basis, even on the subway here (from brands like Moncler, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior and Hermes). You tend to see a little bit of everything here.

Have you stopped wearing your Chanel for the aforementioned reasons I’ve listed above that other Chanel owners have mentioned? If not, are you going to continue to purchase and wear them out? I feel like Chanel brings out the worst jealousy, envious attitudes and straight up hate from people (who I believe would purchase it if they could).

I’d like to know your thought, thanks!

New Ivy on Chain - please share your pics and experiences! Pros and cons etc.

I’m pretty sure my next purchase will be the new Ivy, once my SA gets ahold of it from somewhere. My store hasnt still gotten a single piece of that.. but i have a hope she can source it somewhere quite quickly.

Has it been a popular release?
Do you have it? What do you think of it, pros and cons?
About the strap, is it the same that Loop has, and in longest Setting long enough to Wear crossbody?

I want to know everything and see all the photos!

Thank you in advance, my fellow Lvoers ❤️
