2023 Downsizing Your Bag Collection

I started collecting bags last year, and I told myself I wanted to save more money and stop buying this year. However, in the last few months I accumulated a lot of cheap bags, which necessitated my first downsizing. I also reminded myself of what my rules are for bags. Would love to hear about other TPFers' downsizing experience.

Bags that were sold/donated: twelve or thirteen bags. Mostly cheap shoulder bags and some bags I bought years ago and never wore.
Trade: sold two Celine medium sized bags. Vintage Celine Horse Carriage shoulder bag and Celine box bag in medium size and black.
Bought/Replace: I bought two Celine box bags in teen size, black and brown.
Current count: 18 bags.

Stuart Weitzman “Aleena” PVC narrow/medium question

Hello,

I own the SW “Aleena PVC” in 6.5 narrow. I accidentally ordered the same shoe in a different color yesterday (because it’s fabulous!) in a 6.5 medium. The narrow fits perfectly and is so comfy. I can’t return the shoes as they are final sale and now I’m so worried I’m not going to be able to wear them.

Does anyone own two different widths in SW and is it really a BIG difference? I’m so bummed I may not be able to wear these and can’t return or exchange.

What are Dior hardware usually made of?

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anybody may know what Diors hardware are made of? I tried to search around for the antique/gold hardware of the Caro and the saddle. But did not find anything more than it was just “metal”.

The reason I got curious, was because my caro bags hardware where the chain connect to the bag, was kind of cloudy. And I asked a leather artisan for advice, and he asked me whether the hardware was solid brass with plated zinc? Or zinc plated with brass? Or something different? So now I wonder what kind of metal Dior use for their bag? That could be interesting to know, so you can take better care of it :amuse: thank you for looking on my thread.

How to make a vintage saddle bag crossbody?

I recently purchased this beauty without realizing the strap is too short for a crossbody style. I don't know why in my head, I always thought the mini bags were a crossbody. In any case, I love the bag and now wondering how I can make it a crossbody? Shall I completely cut off the strap and add a new longer replacement strap or use some sort of extension? Please recommend how to wear this bag without spending much money on it.

Thanks

Hi! You have all helped me so much in my past indecisiveness so hoping you don’t mind one more poll lol!

I have a mini Lou camera bag black with gold hardware and a clutch/wristlet black with silver hardware with crossbody conversion kit and lots of nice silver chain options.

I can’t keep both. They are so close in price bc I purchased the mini Lou preloved. I love that it is an actual bag and has leather interior. It fits the same as clutch with addition of my sunglasses. I hate not having a spot for my sunglasses but the gold hardware is so bold and yellow. It just feels really dressy and I wear my silver Tiffany jewelry constantly without switching out. I don’t live a dressy lifestyle and don’t reach for this as a casual bag. The clutch works well while carrying my NF tote for work or diaper bag but allows me to have my essentials close to my body. The silver fits my jewelry and wardrobe better. I could dress it up for formal events. Right? Is silver hardware ok for formal events? They are so infrequent anyway ha!

I can return the clutch bc I literally just purchased it but the mini Lou I will take a bit of a hit maybe $200 if selling it.

All thoughts and opinions welcome!

Loewe puzzle colors help

Hi everyone need some help I’m purchasing my first Loewe bag and I’m looking at the puzzle. Not sure what color to get. I wanted the tan but I just recently got the Fendi by the way (Fendi Roma across the front) in the tan color. Then I was looking at the sand but I also recently got a Hermes Evelyn in etoupe. My next choices would be black, grey or the artichoke green. I love how chic the black looks but is it to boring? What do you you guys think and which color do you have if you own the bag. Need some input.

Usual time frame when an item gets shipped to you or longest you’ve waited

Was curious to know what the usual time frames or longest time when a SA ships out your item to you.

My SA has shipped out an item to me before within the same day that he rung it up. But this time, he rung it up but is having a different location ship it to me. I remember he even said it should arrive within 2-3 business days. But it’s been two days since the transaction and there’s no movement or update. I usually get an alert with Fedex anyways when a shipping label gets made/shipped.

I think I’m just anxious that this store would forget or lost in the system somewhere because that store wasn’t the one that rung it up. Idk if I’m making sense whatsoever

Which color would you pick-Etain or Vert Cypress?

I love both colors and can't decide which one to go for. If there is any reason for your choice, for example, if one holds value better than the other or anything else, please let me know. Thanks all.

Any Opinions?

Thought I would stop by and ask anyone's opinion of the small zipped Bayswater in the pale grey micro grain. I am thinking of purchasing it but have not seen this grey color. On the Mulberry site it looks almost white. Also, anyone's opinion on the quality will be helpful. Many thanks!

Switching SA in the same store

Hello everyone! Hope you are well and healthy.
I do understand that this topic might have been endlessly discussed here in this forum, but I am having a hard time coming up with authentic and emotionally intelligent "wording" to talk to my H SA about switching SAs.:confused1: I can have the authentic piece down but I am not knowing how to word it in a way that might convey the message in a kind way. I know some people are blunt and straightforward forward and they see H relationships as utilitarian and transactional. I can be VERY blunt and straightforward and that is exactly what I am trying to avoid. I think there is a large piece of utilitarian and transactional parts to it, after all, they are a business. But I am working with a human being and I cannot deny that component. Bottom line: I met my SA last year and she wasn't referred by anyone in specific. I moved to Vegas and I met her. Now, two years down the road, I met another SA 6 months ago that I just simply adore and we work very very well together. He is a delight to work with. We just connect and I love going to the store to chat and purchase items from him. Of all the stores I worked with, he is the best. So now, I asked him if he can be my SA and of course, he said yes but asked me to talk to my current SA who works at the same store. Two years ago, I went through a similar process but it was a bit different because I was moving from CA to the Midwest. So I wrote an email to my SA saying that I would be switching stores due to the logistics. That was an easy breakup because the reason was obvious. Now, in this situation, the matter is more subjective and I think that's where I am stuck. I am feeling bad for working with her for two years and suddenly finding someone that I work better with. I am not knowing how to word it to her.
Please, I would like to ask for kindness. If you think this is a "first world" problem (which it is) and tell me to take a hike, skip this thread and move on.
I really don't need people telling me that I am fretting over nonsense or criticizing me for caring about the impact of my words on another human being.
If you simply don't care, cool. You don't need to express it.
Thank you for your input!

Does anyone have old lambskin bags? I'm curious about long-term durability.

The older the better! Or if you carry a lot of items in your bags, I'd be interested from hearing from you, too. I hear that lambskins stretches and loses its shape over time. Has that been the case in your experience? Or does the way leather is finished and treated or the way your bag is constructed help it retain its shape?

Rilva bag

I came across the Rilva bag online and fell for it right away. I really like the minimal boston bag style. But, it seems there’s no additional information anywhere; no reviews, no mentions on this forum, nothing.

Does anyone here own, or know of, this bag? When was it in discontinued? Are there multiple sizes?Anything else you can tell me?

Here’s a picture of the bag in question
