CRIN du CHEVAL

Horsehair weave without the distinctive ribbed pattern achieved with the addition of linen cords. Most often seen in the kelly or smaller, stiffer bags. Bags with this construction are usually lined in chevre. Found in natural, rouge H, etoupe, black, and other colors.

BARENIA - COLORS

For a full description of Barenia, click here.

In addition to natural, barenia can also be found in ebene, indigo, black, and olive. Occasionally a rumor of rouge h barenia surfaces, but we have yet to see a photograph of it for confirmation.

Veau Tadelakt

A relatively new leather, structured and similar to box. Tadelakt has more sheen than swift, but is more matte than box and comes in bright colors, such as violet, a selection of reds, and others. In fauve, it has a very similar apparance to natural barenia, though the leather itself is processed in a very different way. Tadelakt is used in bags and small accessories.

BOX CALF, Rouge H

The quintessential Hermes leather. A veau, or calf leather, this leather has been around since Hermes has been making handbags. It is a smooth leather with a glossy finish that is susceptible to scratches. However, the scratches eventually blend into one glossy mirror-like patina, that box afficionados crave. Care must be taken with this leather when raining, if the raindrops are not wiped off, the leather will blister. Under the right care, box calf can last for generations.

CHEVRE MANGALORE

A relatively new goathide (2008) and like coromandel/mysore, it is lightweight, scratch resistant, iridescent and known for making colors "pop". Light spine and it is the most souple of all goathide, tends to batwing/slouch easily. Medium grain size.

CROCODYLUS POROSUS ~ Matte
This leather is designated by a ^. Because it is not treated, it does not do well in rain. While the crocodile skins can be glazed, it is not recommended that it be done more than twice. Being an exotic, it should come with a CITES certificate that should be carried while traveling.
