Almost certainly a stupid question, but is it acceptable--and is it useful--to ask a SA to search store inventories for a particular rare, vintage-y scarf? Has anyone ever located a rare one through a Hermes boutique? In this case I'm thinking of a design from the mid-90s which was probably a limited edition. I'm just getting into collecting and would prefer not to make a fool of myself in the boutique right off the bat! Also, I don't have a relationship with any particular SA and don't wish to ask too much. . . .

Chance of getting 10-15 yr old scarf through SA = 0 %

and limited editions were often not sold through the stores anyway, but it depends

Not a stupid question at all...but unfortunately there is virtually no chance of finding an old treasure at the boutique. Hermes has been restricting/modifying their return policy so old treasures don't pop up. In addition, they are seemingly even more vigilant about clearing out merchandise and shipping it to the sales. But don't despair - in addition to asking collector groups such as this one to keep an eye out, you can search eBay and there are a number of online sellers. If you go that route - and believe me, I have far too many times, you need to be sure you are purchasing authentic merchandise from a reputable seller. And those questions can be answered here as well! Oh yes, special issues are even more difficult because they are not generally made in large numbers so most of the boutiques would never have carried them to begin with.

Which scarf is it that you are searching for?

Thanks to Kelly100, guiccagal07, LuvBolide and Bordelle who gave me feedback on japandream07 and "best wishes" on winning my first grail scarf, Persona. I won the bid!:yahoo:

Also big shout out to hello2703 for the "authentication.":woohoo:

Okay, get ready to fall on the floor laughing, but as suggested, I'm posting my Grail of Grails: the Kermit Oliver "Naturalia," circa 1994. I know, I know, they probably made about four of 'em, but ever since I saw it on PF, I've been obsessed. Sigh. Well, to steal from Browning, "a (wo)man's reach should exceed her grasp, or what's a heaven for?” Thanks to all the experts for your responses.
