Hi,
I came across this thread as I purchased the ballon bleu 33 gold with diamonds a few weeks ago (my first gold watch) and am debating exchanging for the medium panthere in gold with diamonds. I’m in my late 30s and work in finance. I’d be wearing the watch everyday. Having such a hard time deciding so any thoughts are appreciated!

This watch is stunning!

It's a bit flashy for work but the Panthere with diamonds is too. I would keep it, but good luck with your decision. Both choices are beautiful options.

Both are beautiful, I agree neither is subtle. I own the 33 BB with diamonds in SS. I think the dial is prettier on the BB ( think it is sunray on the PM version), SS is guilloché. Do you care about the movement of a watch? The BB is automatic whereas Panthère is quartz. For me I just couldn't rationalise that price for a quartz watch, even though I love the Panthère aesthetically. But many don't care about movement! I know you are only in your 30s but if you plan to keep the watch long term the BB33 is a larger dial and thus easier to read, even compared to the largest Panthère (medium).

Thank you so much! I love them both. I am pretty sure that’s my problem. To me, the Panthere is more classic Cartier and one of the reasons I think I’m having doubts in regard to it being my first gold watch. I was afraid of the BB being too flashy for work, but I’m sure I’ll adjust. The Panthere while not subtle feels more subtle to me compared to the BB diamonds. I wish I could buy both :). Appreciate your input!

Thank you! The dial is beautiful. I love the band as well. The sales associate definitely steered me toward the BB when I purchased it. I just can’t tell if I feel comfortable wearing it in an office setting. Enjoy yours. They’re all stunning.

I think of the BB as a modern classic. I feel that the panthere, esp. in a smaller size is a bit more mature (I’m 56 and I simply remember the 1980s when the panthere was very very popular). But, they’re both beautiful and this is very subjective (along with whether to wear diamonds on a watch. :). In certain professions and at certain levels, I don’t necessarily think diamonds on a bezel or surround are a deal breaker).

Also agree that I would prefer to have an automatic than a quartz for the money. Whether one is comfortable wearing a yg watch with diamonds for work is a different matter. But, when in doubt, I would recommend doing what other professionals do which is wear a jacket or sleeves over when you would prefer to be more discreet. A subtle glimpse can be very nice.
