Yellow gold or white gold - which do you prefer???

For small items I like white gold. Like earrings and rings and charms and maybe thin neckalces. But for larger items I like yellow gold because it ages better and I love the look of worn yellow gold. Like in bigger bracelets and cuffs or chunky jewelry.

For the longest time I was a white gold girl, but I'm starting to find myself liking and wanting some yellow gold pieces now. Still think I'd lean toward white gold/platinum for a wedding set though.

I prefer wg/pt for wedding sets as well. I think diamonds in general look the best in white metals. It brings out the brightness of the colorless diamonds. For all other jewelry, I prefer the richness of yg. I think it ages better as others have mentioned, and it flatters my skin tone the most.

Just wondered if I am imagining it or whether yellow gold is becoming fashionable again? I have found myself wearing more and more yellow gold recently.

This thread is over a year old. What is your preference now?

It is interesting because I hear this every year in jewelry stores, where owners tell me yellow gold is becoming more popular. But over more than a decade, I've never seen it come to fruition. In other words, people always SAY yellow gold is having a resurgence in popularity, but no one ever seems to carry more. Part of that is due to the price of gold right now, of course, but yellow pieces are still few and far between.

I still prefer yellow gold for my skintone, and when I upgrade my engagement set, I will still choose yellow gold. Indeed, with the exception of pave (which I think looks better in white gold), I think yellow gold makes a lower colored diamond appear whiter/brighter in comparison.

A lot of it is due to the price of gold, I think.

It will take a while to come for wedding sets, as many prefer white gold for diamonds. But also, there are a lot of cheaper metals that look sort of like white gold (palladium, titanium, even SS, which I see people set diamonds in now, and stainless steel) while there is nothing that really looks like YG. You can plate things with it, but that's about it.

Is anyone else here seeing people pull out their old 80's jewelry in their area? The women around here who own omega chains are all wearing them again around here, as well as their old gold bangles. And I've seen this in a couple of other places that I travel to. Has anyone else seen this?

You can always change your watch but your engagement/ wedding ring is hopefully permanent so I say don't go with the trend go with what looks best on you. Depending on skin tone makes a difference what looks good. I think the whiter the skin the lighter the gold. Darker skin looks very good in yellow and pink gold in my opinion.

I like the variety so I collect them in white, yellow and rose gold...I've even heard of green gold but i don't have green gold. I don't usually mix the 2 except even when I'm wearing yellow or pink gold I still wear my e-ring and w-ring which are white. But lately I see more and more people mixing the two.

For me, it really depends on the stone and style. I have pieces in WG, PT, silver, YG, RG. I personally prefer the very white sparkling diamond so it's best set in WG or PT. I also prefer WG with ruby but like YG with say amethyst. I also mix metals. But overall, i'd say I have more WG items.
