Yellow gold or Rose gold?

Yes they are made of solid 18 kt gold. However the fading phenomenon is quite curious. TPFers exposed several hypotheses about it; but I tend to think that the fading may be due to something else.
First the copper rate in Cartier RG is certainly lower than average RG jewelry everywhere else (I’d say 15% max against 20% in traditional rose gold and 25% in red gold).
And second, the sterling silver rate may be higher in Cartier RG jewelry too. I tend to think the fading may come from a higher rate of sterling silver in the final alloy. Sterling silver being well-known for its natural oxydation; it could make sense.
But it’s just my hypothesis.

They use sterling silver in their alloy yet charge just as much for the solid YG?

The yellow gold bracelet is not solid 100% gold. All of their gold bracelets are 18Kt gold. 18Kt gold is only 75% pure gold, the other 25% are the alloys. Most high end jewelry made of gold, be it Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari, etc. is 18Kt gold (again 75% gold + 25% alloys), because 24Kt is generally too soft for regular wear and tear.

I doubt Cartier is only using 15% copper. That would be almost indistinguishable from 18Kt yellow gold, which is usually 12.5% copper, 12.5% silver, and 75% gold.
There are 3 different shades of gold that have a pink to red hue.
Anyway, if we are talking about 18Kt gold -
Pink gold is the lightest in color and is 20% Copper, 5% Zinc, and 75% gold.
Rose gold which has more pink to it is 22.25% Copper, 2.75% silver, and 75% gold.
Red gold is almost orange there is so much copper - it is 25% copper and 75% gold.

There can be some slight variations in the alloys, and Rolex developed a rose gold , they call Everose -which incorporates some platinum into the alloys and supposedly will not fade (although there have been a few reported instances of it fading). So the fading issue is not just a Cartier issue.

My understanding is the fading of some rose/pink gold products is due to exposure to chemicals which are in the water that we shower in and which are also in swimming pools and hot tubs. I have worn my rose gold love in the shower for years and it has faded so that it is only slightly more pink than my yellow gold bracelet. However, my pink gold Tank Louis Cartier is on a leather strap so it never goes in the shower or a pool and it still looks like a nice deep shade of pink gold and is a much deeper shade of pink than my love bracelet. I think most people take off their jewelry before showering or going in a pool, so most rose or pink gold jewelry from other makers or even other pieces from Cartier are not subjected to these chemicals frequently. The nature of the Love bracelet is that it isn't something intended to come off every day so they are worn in showers and pools and the come in contact with chemicals that can cause the color to fade.

Hi! I have a YG Love open bracelet and Pink Gold JUC (both without diamonds). I'm Asian with a yellowish skin tone and tans easily. I wear my Love every day and I prefer my JUC on its own, not stacked and wear it on the opposite wrist without a watch ( but I don't wear the JUC everyday). The Love is 4 years old and has fine scratches. It's not as shiny as it was new but I [emoji173] it like this! I have other Cartier pink gold jewelry, but I preferred the Love in YG
Can you post pics of your yg bracelet with your skin tone? It sounds like I have the same and want to see the how the yg looks. My husband got me a wg bracelet for our 10 year anniversary and I want to see if the yg would suit my skin tone better.

Thank you ladies for sharing pics of your pieces! The Pink Gold look superb! I'm dead set on the pink JUC but was debating betn the yg and pink gold love bracelet veering more towards the yg but now that I saw how beautiful the rose or pink gold is I'm thinking of getting both in pink gold. I still have a week to decide so I'll keep looking at more pics

Did you end up getting the rg? Or yg? Would love to see some pictures.

Hello everyone! I am having a hard time deciding on which gold to choose for my first LOVE bracelet and the Joust en Clou. I am Asian and I wear a lot of yellow gold so I'm kind of thinking maybe I should go for the ROSE gold or pink gold as cartier likes to call it.

What is your recommendation gals?

Thank you
I am also having a hard time deciding between the two metals! I think rose gold suits my skin tone better but yellow gold is more classic. HELP!

Although I prefer YG, but if the RG suits your skin tone better you should choose that IMO. Cartier RG appears relatively yellow, as it's not very pink, so it'll remain a classic.
