I agree, I also thought the bag was gorgeous! Yea, the price tag is a killer huh? I only have Leather COACH bags in the past because I thought they were more affordable.

Don't be fooled, just because it is made out of leather does not mean the price is justified. Don't forget where the leather is coming from and where it is made, CHINA (I have done the research myself). Even the best quality of leather from there is not as expensive as say Italy (where it is amazing) and FOR SURE the labor there is not as much, so why the high price tag? So, this "PROUD TRADITIONAL AMERICAN" company can MAKE MORE MONEY!
..... off of us!

Some might even call that greed. Why not just charge us more for each bag (oh, wait they are already!) AND keep OUR Americans employed? Trust me, I am all for the Chinese, I am one myself but I just find this sick....

Kudos to you Ammietwist for knowing they moved to CHINA!

I have had a few run ins with this company lately (corporate) and they really just disgust me. They pride themselves on being a great American company that prides itself on Tradition and American values. Yet they take took their work from the Americans and moved it to CHINA to make a bigger buck. Which is fine business practice but don't tell me you are a proud American supporting company then. AND to top it off charge us, the consumers (who keep your business running) with UNREASONABLE prices, when you are making so much more now that you are manufacturing in CHINA.

So, girls, I am ridding of all my COACH....

I am sure if I see another COACH bag I love I will probably get it if it is the right price.

I am not asking anyone to ban COACH, I just wanted everyone to be aware that they do manufacture in CHINA, if that is a factor to you say when you have a LV in one hand and a COACH in another and am trying to decide. I can't believe this bag costs more than a Speedy, wow! this is the day that the fat lady sings for COACH, who would have guessed COACH and LV would be in the same price range....

I'm curious to see what's to come for them and their price tags.

PS. if you work for COACH, I want you to know I am not trying to insult you. Not at all, I hope you understand. If you work at Corporate, yea, I would love to chat!! :)

I have this bag is brown and love it. I've already gotten so many compliments on it. I love big bags so I don't really have a problem with the size of the bag. It's pretty similar in size to a lot of the oversized hobos that are out these days.

Overall, i think i was a little put off by manufacturing of coach bags(a lot of other brands too) being shifted to china, but i think i've gotten over it...I absolutely adore the bag...despite the price tag.

Go to any department store and look at the little tags inside the handbags. ALOT of them are made in China. I have a Cole Haan and a Kate Spade, both made in China, neither of them were cheap either. My new Hayden-Harnett satchel - China. Where a bag is manufactured is not the biggest testament to its quality.

Coach is a publicly held company (NYSE:COH). Their primary concern is their stockholders, and they are behaving like every other corporate entity I have dealt with. Their stock in worth 10X what is was four years ago. They must be doing something right.

I have bags that are made in China from Stone Mountain, Sigrid Olsen and a few others, but one thing they have in common is that they were ALL discounted down to really low prices from a SRP that wasn't a month's rent ($148 and under to be precise). I find it kind of disturbing when a "luxury" brand like Coach, Kate Spade, D&B or Brahmin decides to cut their costs in multiple ways while also keeping the prices high. Or worse, doubling the prices the way Kooba did (btw, I like the Kooba Sienna, just won't buy one).

Obviously Coach, D&B, Brahmin, Kate Spade and Stone Mountain were making a profit when they were made in this country, and Kooba in Italy, but if you need to expand, why not do it here? Coach presents itself as an American company, and the only thing American is the design because the bag sure isn't.

You mentioned Cole Haan, and I contacted the company a couple of months ago about their manufacturing sources. I was told that they manufacture in multiple countries and not just China. Kate Spade is a company that used to produce strictly in the U.S., and now they've still got the high prices but Chinese production. Why does the consumer have to get screwed?

Yes, where the bag is made is not the biggest testament to quality, BUT it sure does say how much it cost relative to what the company is charging. The markup is ridiculous under normal conditions, but when someone shifts production overseas, their profit goes up, jobs are lost, and the consumer is still paying the same, or more, than they did before. WTH?

I work hard as my father's caretaker, and when I get money to spend on a "luxury" item, you can be sure I'm going to pay attention to who gets the bulk of it.

Jobs are not lost when manufacturing is moved out of the US, the jobs are shifted to people in the other country. I suspect those people are very happy to have those jobs. Corporations - particularly publicly held corporations - are responsible to their stockholders. It's all about profit, and how can we increase profit next year. Cutting costs always starts with the employees. First they cut the benefits, then they cut the employees. Moving operations out of the US is good for the bottom line.

I absolutely respect everyone's right to buy only items made in the US. It is unfortunate that we seem to be pricing ourselves out of the marketplace on so many things. Everybody wants a top-dollar salary, but they are all shopping at Wal-Mart because they can get everything cheaper there.

The saddest thing to watch right now is GM going down the tubes. I have family working for GM, and they know that their time there is now limited.
