Do you guys usually wait in line to get in to the boutique? I was at the mall today and thought I’d look around gucci to get something I might like but the door guy told me that I had to get in line to get in. There were like 10 people inside the boutique (but I could be wrong) and i’m just wondering if this happens often or is this a new rule or it just so happened that the boutique was “packed”? Or maybe there was a Vip and had to control the crowd.
As you can see we have a whole thread devoted to this.
On Friday I asked my SA about this development. 3 things.
1. Numbers:
Situation was Gucci stores were getting too crowded with customers waiting, taking up chairs that should be for people looking at jewellery or shoes, browsing RTW by themselves, trying on (not putting things back in the right place) messing up displays etc. Basically acting like they're in Top Shop (
my judgement, not hers).
2. Popularity and curiosity:
A lot of new-to-Gucci people just want to browse often many depts and asking many questions (fine too) while others have huge lists buying for others overseas - this is not what Gucci is used to, and both of these patterns occupy a member of staff for a long time.
For 1 & 2 the queues are not just a way of making sure people get served soon after entering the store but also so that customers inside the shop can have a pleasant experience.
3. High rollers:
VIPs come in before or after normal hours and flagships have a floor most people do not see. They don't queue, they don't cause lines.
This for general info and not directed at anyone in particular:
If you're new(er) to Gucci (or new to that particular store) and have to wait in line, once in, if you make a contact with your SA whilst purchasing, take a card and make an appointment for the next time, they can inform security.
The busiest times of the day tend to be the afternoons and weekends. Lunchtimes are less busy but there're also fewer staff available. If you want to avoid queueing, mornings are quieter and (if your store has one) late night openings.
