Would you modify a bag?

For anyone interested, I was able to put a knot in a section of the drawstring that's hidden by fabric inside the bag and pull the tassel up by 2 or 3 inches without actually doing any permanent alteration to the bag, yippee! Should have thought of it to begin with but it's been interesting to see the various opinions, thanks!

You can see the tubes of fabric the drawstring runs through, the knot is inside one of them. Without the knot the weight of the tassel pulls it down and cinches the bag a bit so this is much better.

Test drove her today, the knot limits the opening a tad but not too badly, I may adjust it a little, but didn't notice the tassel at all which is great!

Yep. Did for my small Chanel flap in black lambskin. LeatherPros added some length to the chain for cross body wear. I'll never sell, so it's perfect! Head of company worked with Chanel for years. Highly recommend!

I would, if it meant I would reach for it more often! I don't resell so have no problems changing things, even if it is Chanel, it's still MY bag and I need to enjoy it 100%.

I agree with you 100%, Shelby as I don't resell either.
If I don't like one of my bags any more, I give it to someone who loves it.

I have a Chanel (older bag) with a very long tassel (which is connected to the drawstring at the top of the bag so it isn't removable). It's annoyingly long in fact, and I'd like to shorten it. Would you modify a bag knowing that it would dramatically decrease the bag's value, so you could be happier wearing it?

Yes!
Even if it changes the design slightly, as long as I am the owner, I make the rules!

I have never done it to a bag, only a wallet, but it's crossed my mind for similar reasons, I don't always want every zipper pull to feature a tassel, most are not removable, but a Michael Kors was on a bag I bought last year. As to the poor wallet I altered, it was a Harley Davidson (not cheap) that came with a chain that wasn't needed, I can remember cringing heavily during the operation but it was long before I got into bags, I now know there were much better options available to me, so live/learn.

Knotted the drawstring inside the bag and hid the knot in the fabric tube that covers the drawstring. Worked quite well actually!

Just seeing this thread so i was not able to assist with input.....But it looks like you found the perfect solution. I would have been very cautious before cutting, but you need to make the bag work for you. Personally, i love it with the tassel And i think it is just what a gorgeous bag!

Thanks! I've been carrying the bag all week and love it but with the knot inside it does constrict the opening a little more than I'd like. Will try to carry it unknotted and see, but the tassel may yet get a bit of a haircut!
