Would you modify a bag?

Oh its what's left over after you tighten it? I guess you could try to tie it in a knot but I feel like the knot would be too big. I'd have no problem cutting it to the length you want.
That’s kind of where it sits naturally, the drawstring isn’t really tightened. I’ll have to see if there’s some way to maybe raise it up from the inside as there’s some slack at the top.

Nice bag. What I would try to do is tuck that tassel up inside the bag instead of cutting. The bag is soft and slouchy. probably wrap the tassel in a cotton protective sleeve if you want to tuck it inside. Good luck.
I tried that but you have to go over the top edge to put it inside (can’t slide it through anywhere) so it looks bulky. It also takes up a chunk of space once inside :annoyed:.

I would have no problem modifying. I’m always doing things like that. Sometimes I regret it, sometimes not. With Chanel you want to be sure tho. If it meant I would get more enjoyment out of it, I would do it.
Thanks, I’m going to play with it a bit more before making a decision to modify.

I have a Chanel (older bag) with a very long tassel (which is connected to the drawstring at the top of the bag so it isn't removable). It's annoyingly long in fact, and I'd like to shorten it. Would you modify a bag knowing that it would dramatically decrease the bag's value, so you could be happier wearing it?
I alter my bags in reversible ways. So, if the tassle bothered me and there was a D ring holding it on, I'd take some pliers and just remove it. I could replace it with a different one from Coach/Amazon. That way, if I want to sell it in the future, I can put the original back on.

The unfortunate thing is that it’s not removable in any way, but built into the drawstring. Plus I like the tassel, just not so much if it!

For anyone interested, I was able to put a knot in a section of the drawstring that's hidden by fabric inside the bag and pull the tassel up by 2 or 3 inches without actually doing any permanent alteration to the bag, yippee! Should have thought of it to begin with but it's been interesting to see the various opinions, thanks!

You can see the tubes of fabric the drawstring runs through, the knot is inside one of them. Without the knot the weight of the tassel pulls it down and cinches the bag a bit so this is much better.
