Would you buy this birkin?

I have actually seen a bag like this being passed off as the real thing at one Milan Station in Hong Kong. The SA insisted that it was authentic but you can see right away what is off. The rest of it looked fine really. No, I wouldn't buy it.

I have to say that none of these fakes can copy Hermes leather. That is really the big clue (apart from the bad stitching and horrible hardware). But if you look at how beautiful the leathers are at Hermes you can see that copying that would be very difficult.
Sometimes the fake bags also have a funky smell from the cheap leather.

I have looked and looked and I can't see this "dead giveaway" in the second picture. Boy I sure am glad I discovered TPF. Even with CDL's clue, I can't figure it out?! LOL. I don't expect an explanation as I know that is something that is a closely guarded secret, but I will be glad when I get to the point where I can spot a fake every time. I would have thought that this one was real. And I own two Birkins. I'm embarassed! :confused1:

I think the public is VASTLY unaware.

I dashed in a cafe bar a week ago to get a drink for my mother on the patio. While the bartender was making it, I noticed a sweet somewhat older lady with a VERY used Kelly so I complimented her on it. I love to see people using their bags!

She spun around and closed it (it was open while she paid her tab) so I could see it properly. It was utterly detroyed. Corners and edges frayed, detached almost, colour completely faded off the edges and looked like Jane herself stomped it. She declared "oh yes! Its an authentic Hermies Kelly-Birkin!" And grinned ear to ear. She'd paid a mint for it, she'd only recently gotten it... I didn't have the heart to mention it's a Kelly, not a Kelly-Birkin.

I told her it beamed love and gave her a smile, then walked away wishing I could have told her all about her bag without hurting her feelings, but knew anything I said invariably would have... Wretched eBayer that sold it to her had just no heart

Aaaaw, bless your heart :heart::heart:. Was it authentic? As long as she was happy to carry her treasure.... And shame on the former owner for wrecking that poor bag and shame on the seller for overselling it.

This bag arrived to me today and I was startled to see the bag was not authentic.
I called the person who was trying to sell it and asked them where they purchased the bag. The husband told me he bought it on ebay a few years ago and paid $7000! I do believe he really did not know.
I am just wondering how many women here would have bought this bag if the price was right?

To be honest, not knowing it was a fake, I probably WOULD get it if the price was right AND it came from a very reputable seller AND they accept credit card payments AND a good return policy.

I have to agree with this; I wouldn't have known that this bag is a fake and I might have purchased it, if the price was right. I've seen obvious fakes on various replica Web sites, but this one looks pretty good to me. Would someone be so kind as to email me with some things I should be looking out for? I would truly appreciate it!

This is the scary thing!!! I wouldnt have known that was a fake at all.
I have 4 (authentic) H bags, but I am still totally and utterly useless at spotting sophisticated fakes. I keep scrutinizing mine, but I obviously just dont have a good eye for these things.
If I was going to spend that much money, I would definately post pics on the forum and have it authenticated, because I could never trust my own judgement.
I agree with Raz, i could't tell it is not real.
Thanks God this forum exists!!!
