Would you buy this birkin?

The first pic has something that alerted me and this was confirmed by the second pic. I would never buy a bag on the basis of one pic.

That's good to know hello. For my still untrained eyes, it's difficult to tell. I would not be comfortable buying on ebay and the likes. It's reassuring to know there are quite a few experts here who can help with the authentication. Thank you ladies (and gentlemen) who take the time to do so. :flowers:

I agree with hello and Pepper. The 2nd picture was confirmation it's a fake. And yes, I would NEVER, EVER buy a bag based on one picture. And I would never buy from someone who refuses to take more photos to show upon request. Once, I was told "no more photos because I have already packed the bag up nicely". BS.

I think CDL is asking if we would buy it because we think it is real... not would we buy a fake. This fake bag is such a good replica that many of us might consider buying it because it is hard to tell with this bag for those of us who don't currently have a Birkin to compare it to.

This issue takes me back to the "rant" thread about resellers. Some of us who can't get to a boutique regularly count on certain well-respected resellers for some purchases. If I'm purchasing from a reseller I want that person to have the bag in his/her possession and the knowledge to assess the bag for authenticity based upon its measurements, feel, leather aroma, etc. Being able to identify the true authentic Hermes bags from the fakes is a skill that requires a specific set of knowledge. That's part of what I'm paying the mark-up for when I purchase from a reseller, the knowledge to seperate the authentic from the fakes---and for the integrity to send back the fakes.

Perfectly said....

I personally will never buy Hermes from eBay, hence my staking out all the stores in Europe, :nogood: I am just not confident enough to spend these amounts of money and not get to see/handle the bag IRL first.

I have to say that it is very sad that someone has paid so much for a fake bag and didn't realize that it is fake!! Ebay is bit dangerous and fake bags keep getting better and better.. TG tpf is so helpful with authenticity issues!!!

I never purchase away from H, but hard to tell if this bag is fake from the first picture. I would ask for many many pictures before even considering purchasing on ebay. The second picture however is a dead giveaway. Just as said earlier, the fakes are getting better and better...and more and more expensive!!!

I wouldn't want a blue bag, but I wouldn't have known that was a fake.

On the authenticate thread, I see people saying "that's definitely fake", but a lot of the time, but I can't tell know they know. Could someone please detail what the tip-offs in this picture are, and what we should be looking for in order to protect ourselves from fakes?

I'm not in the market for a bag at the moment (still paying off Paris!) but I would love to know for the future, and just my own information, because I look on eBay a lot, and I would like to be able to tell for myself what is and isn't real.

Ebay is very scary. I have sold on ebay, only H items that I personally bought through H boutiques. I would also buy on ebay, but only through reputible people like you CDL

This is the scary thing!!! I wouldnt have known that was a fake at all.
I have 4 (authentic) H bags, but I am still totally and utterly useless at spotting sophisticated fakes. I keep scrutinizing mine, but I obviously just dont have a good eye for these things.
If I was going to spend that much money, I would definately post pics on the forum and have it authenticated, because I could never trust my own judgement.

As this forum is unfortunately also frequented by faksters, please understand that we're not givinb away pointers on how to recognize a fake. If you are interested in purchasing an Hermes bag outside of an Hermes boutique, please post it on the 'authenticate this' thread and we'll try to help you.
