Would you buy a designer-inspired bag?

Have you tried to rent the bag? That is what I do since it is a lot of money to spend if you are not 100% sure. I rented one for a month which kind of cost a small fortune but it was well worth it. It has made me fall in love with Chanel. It is truly a beautiful bag and you will not regret taking the plunge.

Question is, if you can't afford it yet or not yet ready to commit a small fortune, but totally love the design, would you consider buying this bag just to try and wait it out til you have the real deal?
Since you asked this question, I will answer it how I personally would act. If I couldn't yet afford to buy a bag or wasn't yet ready to commit to the cost, I would not buy the bag you showed. I would instead put that money into a fund to start saving for the Chanel bag that I really wanted. If I totally loved the design (which I do love the design of the Chanel 2.55 [aka "reissue" bag]), I would rather wait and save than carry an inspired or other near-replica. It's what I did before I bought Chanel; I bought other brands of bags, then saved for my first Chanel.

Since people first impression that it's a fake, I'm sure you will have to give the same legal and technical explanation every time you wear it and someone cast a doubt.

The terrible experience of being scrutinized will make me feel disgusted and Chanel wannabe every time I take it out. It just not worth it.

+1

I'm all for trying out a style before making a big purchase (and Chanel is a very big purchase), but this looks too much like a knock off for my liking. I would find a contemporary brand that has a similar flap style without being a direct copy. Good luck!

Which country are u at if I may ask? Personally put of respect for the designers I will never ever buy designer inspired. Not even an earring, needless to say a handbag. Being in the legal field having spent countless night pondering on one legal point, or having watched my architect brother pulling late hours on his design, I believe everyone should treasure and appreciate the beauty, and quality of creativity. The chanel experience is not something you could truly appreciate unless you are using the real deal. If you get an inspired and later on decide chanel isn't for you, you would be deciding that without using chanel. Definitely try to get your hand on an authentic bag, or wait till you can. A great condition chanel is between 10-30 percent cheaper than retail. And the resale value would be great as well. The chanel 2.55 is, however, a piece every lady must have in their lifetime. Please, I am not being condescending, or bossy, just voicing my opinion ;) no offence to anyone!

i have read all the comments. first, thank you for the time and voicing your opinions. ideally, i'm pretty much set on my plan A w/c is to find the best preloved price given i can sell at least two of my other bags asap. trying out a designer inspired bag or a look a like is plan B if the bags take too long to sell and i get too impatient and want to try out the flap bag immediately - of course it won't be the same I am not trying to replace the chanel experience since that is ultimately the goal when i have the ready funds for it... but it would be perhaps a small taste of what's to come. I can test-drive the style, see if it goes well, without risking thousands of dollars.

appreciate those who share the same opinion as mine - as long as it's legal, no problem with it. get what makes you happy as long as it's not going against human rights (child labor, drug/sex trafficking, etc). whether if it would be an eyesore to some is the least of my worries :D

+1 - and its such a sense of satisfaction when you have enough savings to go buy something you have dreamed of and waited for...

I don't like replicas and I would pass on this purse. There are several cute flaps at reasonable prices for sale, which I would prefer until I would be able to buy an authentic Chanel purse.

Not a fan of "replicas." I have seen a blatant copy of the Chanel flap that had everything the flap had except the logo. I would rather own a different bag. I guess for me it's iffy. I am saving up for my first Chanel and it will probably be a year or more before I can buy it. I have other expenses and I am intent on being financially stable before I bother with Chanel. The wait doesn't bother me and I don't think a replica will really do anything for me. To each his own though.

i'm glad to share great news!

i get shy asking money from hubby because he never says no and i feel like sometimes i ask too much... but he told me i totally deserve it and if it made me happy, just go for it! I was able to purchase a vintage lambskin jumbo flap from one of my trusted pre-loved bag sellers. it is very vintage, priced to sell, but it's still in relatively good condition and still has more life in it. very few flaws -upon close inspection, a couple of mm peel in on side and the tip of the turn lock is faded and shows slight corrosion - but i can't complain! it really is still in good and usable :) lambskin in fair vintage condition, chain strap absolutely no fading, no rips tears or stains and looks good from a close distance.

it was meant to be i really think so - right time and right condition of bag that was commensurate to my budget.

here are a few pics :D

Is it the general look u like? The quilted look? The chain? Or the name?
There are other designer that make flap bags. For example Mulberry do the Lilly which has the chain strap. There are other designer options if you don't want to pay for a a Chanel.
I'm currently saving for my first one. It may take a while but I'm willing to do it as I know I will treasure it for many many years to come.
Good luck!
