I recently fell in love with the iconic chanel flap bag. I have no chanel bags -can't afford it yet nor am I prepared to shell out a small fortune even for preloved for the reason that Chanel is so new to me, I am not even aware firsthand on its level of quality (no Chanel store here in our country so I can't check the bags personally only option is to buy new or preloved online from resellers and I don't know anyone close to me who owns Chanel to ask permission to inspect the bag), etc. and also because this is a recent "love" I dunno how well I will break into the bag, the quirks and pros and cons, questions and everything involved in actually having the bag in your hands already, using it, loving it or hating it.

I am thinking of getting a designer inspired one - well it's almost the same in looks and functionality with a mademoiselle flap but WITHOUT the logo. This is not fake/replica just to clarify, it's a no brand bag but it is indeed patterned after the style.

Question is, if you can't afford it yet or not yet ready to commit a small fortune, but totally love the design, would you consider buying this bag just to try and wait it out til you have the real deal?

Just a backgrounder I have a few designer bags esp from LV. Recently, I have decided to just build a specific bag collection that should last my lifetime - LV speedy (already have), Chanel flap and later on in life, a Birkin. Currently I am selling off my other LV bags and then some to fund the Chanel. I am impatient, I want to try out the Chanel flap asap but to be honest, I don't have the ready funds for such want. The bags may take even 1-2 years to sell.

Thanks and appreciate your opinions!

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. It's only USD70 but made of genuine leather.

I think if you just want to try out the idea of a flap bag to see if this is a style you would actually use it's okay, but you just have to realize the quality and materials are not the same as Chanel.

yes definitely agree on quality! nothing compares i am sure even just seeing pics. that is the idea - to try out the style and see if it works for me. thanks for your input!

thank you for the comments! for now i can't afford it yet but i am seriously saving/selling some bags to fund one in the future. thing is i wish i can test drive it but in our place there's no bag for rent service. the worse thing that can happen is buying it then regretting the purchase. it will cost me quite a small fortune - they are so damn expensive compared to LV :p

I think there is a line between 'inspired by' and fakes as well... There are plenty of quilted bags with chains out there which aren't copies of Chanel and I guess there is the argument that nothing is really original anymore :smile1:

That one is a little too similar for my own tastes but if it doesn't bother you, then go for it!

This looks too much like a fake Chanel Reissue flap. You can try it out, but the cheap quality may turn you off. It is not the same as the real bag.

I agree this looks like a replica. I would not say this is inspired but rather a replica. I wouldn't spend $70 on this. Id just spend the $70 on a nondesigner bag or nothing at all. Perhaps you can save up and buy preowned. Some sites like Yoogis Closet have really good return policies if you are not happy with the purchase.

i understand how some or many may feel this is a blatant replica - degrees of w/c varies and subject to interpretation but I just would like to share my opinion, that this bag is not a replica in the legal and technical sense. no logo or trademark or copyright was infringed. but to us lay people, yes, this can be what you call a "rip off" :p

but i really appreciate varied opinions so keep em coming! :)

I don't see anything wrong in getting this bag. It's not counterfeit and there are many people who can't afford the designer purses but love carrying purses with the look. If you're comfortable carrying it, I will say go for it, OP. Try the style. Just don't go for fakes. And save and save for that first Chanel that you'll eventually get. :D

If its legal I don't have an issue with it at ll. it's not pretending to be CHANEL and its not trying to fool anyone... .:smile1:
