Would / do you buy jewellery on ebay?

I've purchased a lot of jewelry off eBay: diamond tennis bracelet, diamond solitaire, diamond semi-mounts, etc. I have a great jeweller whom I take it to to check the pieces for me. You do have to be careful but it's WAY cheaper to buy off eBay. I've never bought designer pieces though since my jeweller couldn't authenticate them.

I have purchased TONS of jewelry off ebay, and most of it are designer jewelry items; Di Modolo, Roberto Coin, David Yurman, Tiffany, Bvlgari, Mirabelle, Simon G, Laura Ramsey, Tiagnanello, Eli Jewels, Effy, Chaumet, Gucci, Versace, Mauboussin, Bellari, Aaron Basha, Simon Alcantara, Pianegonda, Mikimoto, Salavetti, Rosato, Kabana, Asch Grossbardt, Zydo, Zoccai, Levian, Leaderline, Chopard, Philip Stein, Hidalgo, SOHO, Jacob & Co, Valente, Barry Kronen, and many more.

The key thing is to ONLY purchase from auctions where there are a LOT of clear pictures that show the jewelry markings. Also, get it authenticated!!! It is ALWAYS worth it. You can actually take the pieces to jewelry stores that are an authorised reseller for the designer, and they will authenticate it for you, and for an additional charge, give you a letter of authenticity.

I have discovered that a lot of the sellers are actually getting their pieces from www.bidz.com, and they (Bidz) have great prices if you are patient enough not to get into a serious bidding war. Bidz typically has more than 1 of any given item, so if the prices starts getting out of hand, leave it alone and check back in a few hours or the next day! And also, there are a number of serious brick & morter stores that now have ebay 'stores', so you'd be surprised at the amazing prices that you can get jewelry for.

If you're a jewelry lover like me, you'd appreciate being able to get a $10,000 piece for $2000 - $4000, that way you can get a lot more for the same amount of money! :yahoo:

I have bought 3 Pandora Beads to date from ebay...Pandora beads were more of fun, fashion pieces for me (but with price increase, I call them jewelry now....). I am more into Silver and Stones.
I would not feel comfortable buying something like Cartier Love Bangle or insanely expensive pricey items from ebay...

I absolutely do!! I do like pieces of jewelry that have history or are more unique than what I find locally. Plus I end up getting much more for my money.

I probably wouldn't buy something Cartier or Tiffany's on there, as I would like to have original warrantees and a relationship with the store for repairs and what not in those cases. But I have many amazing pieces from ebay that with a good return policy or lots of research I know is a quality piece. And it is every bit as special to me as something bought locally. Sometime more so. I can enjoy something more if I know I got it at a good price...I get that from my dad.

My everyday wedding band is off ebay. It's a unique 1ctw band where the diamonds go 1/2 way around..it looks like an eternity band on my finger. I bought it for $150!!! The seller offered a return policy which gave me time to take it to a jeweler to have it checked out. In all honesty I love it more than my wedding set. It's so unique and very very pretty.

I've also bought authentic watches, a vintage aquamarine and diamond ring, a white gold and filigree ring with a 6 ct peridot (my daughters birthstones) the 11ct aquamarine pear I wore as a necklace at my wedding, a 100 year old rose gold locket that already had my daughters name engraved on it (with the pictures of the original Ella in it) and much more. I love them all to bits, I know they are real, and I know I paid a very very fair price.

I also bought a early 1900's wedding set with a +1ct Old Mine Cut center diamond in it from someone on Etsy. She normally dealt in estate costume jewelry, she knew it was real but didn't know anything else about it. The photos were horrible (blurry and the ring was dirty), but she was nice as pie and offered a return policy so I took a chance and got the deal of my lifetime. The center stone is a G VS1 !! $600 here are my pictures:

OMG! Congrats! What a great deal you got there! Did you get ended up getting the appraisal? I love old cuts.

Yes, I definitely have and will.

I bought my first Cartier Love WG from ebay with a reputable seller. I had it authenticated from here and i also paid a 3rd party for appraisal and authentication. That transaction was good and smooth.

I also bought an Effy diamond bracelet YG for $95. Retail was $650 was their site.

I also got VCA pendant and it turns out to be fake. I filed the claim and got my full refund. The chain and pendant has a two different metal color (rose gold and yellow) and the chain is wrong and engraving is wrong. It wasn't too bad. Paypal protection.

I usually go through the purses, but I was looking around tonight and saw this. I just bought diamonds off of ebay. I really wanted rose gold diamond hoops, but no jewelry stores sell them locally. I took a big chance just knowing they would be fake- but they weren't! I took them to a jeweler who said they were legit and good diamonds, too. I got 2.0 carat diamond rg hoops (F-SI1) for 1,200. The good thing about Ebay is no taxes on top, either.

I have several times and have had very good experiences. You do, however, need to be sure to thoroughly check out the seller.
As several of the others have stated, many jewellers now have items listed for sale and I wouldn't be afraid of purchases made through them.

Definitely, and why not? Buyers are protected on eBay, well protected on PayPal and extremely protected using credit cards.

EBay is not always about getting a bargain or a second hand item either. It's turned into the world's biggest store for a lot of new items too. There are trusted vendors of jewellery, gemstones and precious metals you can find through reputable forums. Their very profits depend on the level of their customer service, and there's nowhere for them to hide if they mistreat someone.

I personally find it exciting to search for jewellery on eBay. If you know how to do it properly then you can have great experiences!

;)I bought a pair of $400 Tiffany earrings on *bay for $20. The photos showed all the correct stampings, but the description said nothing about Tiffany. No one else bid on them.:tup:

And, YES - they are authentic.
