Resellers like TRR, Vestiaire and Rebag are touting their strickt authentication processes using highly trained experts and automation, machine learning and AI to stop fakes. Still they let the most horrendous fakes pass as authentic apparently selling for $13000!

Seventy years old I only this year learned about the flourishing second-hand marked for luxury handbags and started looking for a Dior Lady in crocodile or alligator. I am not an expert on this particular bag but I know crocodile from alligator. And I do spot embossed leather from a distance:smile: I did not expect to find any fake Dior Lady exotics, but I did!

Rebag is right now selling a Dior Lady crocodile fake for $8035. It is so badly made that it is laughable and one would think it will never sell, but it probably will as several others have sold for high prices. I hate to think that exotic lovers are plain stupid, but if a badly made fake croc bag costing $200 find buyers what about the superfakes?

This bag being fake is a no brainer since Dior did not make an embossed croc version of it. The leather being embossed is a also no brainer not only because the croc pattern is wrong, but because lack of structure and details. But its construction is also wrong and should have alarmed even the most novice authenticator.

Bag sewn from the inside without visible seams where the panels meet, missing parts like strap and charm protector and fabric interior instead of nappa or suede are all tell tales. But most alarming to me is that despite reporting this bag both to Rebag and Ebay nothing happens. Ebay sent a note saying that having used «automation and AI» they determined the «listing not to be a violation». Rebag advised me to «check their other bags»!

Bear in mind we are not talking about Canal Street sellers, but multi-million resellers of luxury bags. Rebag is not the only one trying to pull off something like this, TRR past year or so have listed several such bags. One apparently sold for $13000, another one (labeled as «embossed», but still a fake) sold for $7000! A third one sold for $6000 so maybe lovers of exotic bags have more money than brains!

Vestiaire also sold a fake bag from the same back yard manufacturer for big bucks. Despite these bags being badly made missing typical construction details and accessories they found buyers even without «paperwork» not to speak about dustbags! PS This bag actually had leather interior so an improvement:-)

Thank you for posting this, I have been toying around getting a Lady Dior in an exotic leather after my SA showed me one in store, but was so conflicted because of what a HUGE price difference it is to get one on the resale market.

I just watched a video yesterday highlighting concerns about Rebag.. I personally would not fully trust TRR, Rebag, or Vestaire for high ticket items like this, definitely would need an additional authenticator or two after purchase if I were to buy something off of there.

Wow, that is pretty sad, the people at the TRR simply do NOT know what they are looking at, it’s pathetic.
It really is.

I live in NYC and met a woman who used to work there. She said that they have such a high quota of bags to get through (authenticate, photograph, write descriptions and post) that sometimes they just pass things through that look 'good enough.' She told me they (the people that did this, not her as she was in management/leadership) would get in trouble up to being terminated if they didn't get their quota for the day, so that's why sometimes they rush through.

Having said that, she did also tell me that there are ppl there that take authentications very seriously and do their jobs well. Unfortunately some of them have departed TRR because it became quantity over quality authentications after TRR went public.

Thank you for sharing this…..

I am getting nervous as I recently bought A lady dior in crocodile print that should be arriving soon.

To be extra careful- where would you authenticate it?

If you bought a Dior Lady in crocodile print (print like in embossed, stamped, croc pattern, mock croc, croc imitation) there is no need to authenticate it. It is fake! Dior never made a such version of the Lady. Here pics of fake Dior Lady bags. They are really badly made, the $100 Canal Street type and not superfakes. Still there are people being duped apparently paying up to $13000 for it at The RealReal.

They both have a different scent than leather.

the green one has more of a shine to them- both vintage before they had feet on the bases.
