Ann you should go for it. My husband just had mine reset and was ok with it. At first he was a little bummed but I explained that styles change and the "heart" of the ring is the same just the frame will change. Then he was ok. After its all done he loves it and we both have no regrets. East/west marquise is gorgeous. So modern!

The third one you posted here, the WF one, is a girl on PS's. Her's is gorgeous.

Yes, it's so pretty!

I found almost all of these rings on PS after I decided I NEEDED an east/west marquis ring. Too bad I forgot to tell my husband before he bought my upgrade. :push: I do love my upgrade, though!

SO....I showed DH the pics last night, and he did not jump with joy!! I assume he figures he paid for it once...why do it again! But...I have decided on the e/w setting for sure, and think that it could not be too expensive to have it done if there are no other diamonds involved. What are your thought on keeping the original setting??? Maybe my son would want it one day for my future DIL (keeping in mind that he is 12 now). Or would you sell the setting, to finance the new one????

^^ If he's like my DH, over time he'll get used the idea and won't ever be excited but at least be content. Why don't you get quotes on how much it will cost to help ease his mind? Whiteflash would be a great place to start as they do amazing custom work and it's very, very reasonable.

Personally, I'd keep the original setting and maybe set it with a colored stone. I still wear my original setting as a right hand ring and it makes my husband so happy when I wear it. That way you're keeping the sentiment. It's unlikely that a future DIL will want a setting that wasn't made special for her so don't keep it with that assumption.

What about having the original set with a birthstone or something?? I'm sentimental about things...... The reason I'm considering e/w with my moms ring is because I wear a size 3 an my mom was like a 7 or larger, the ring literally fits my thumb and not only is it impossible to size it down to my size, I don't want to alter the actual ring that much because that's HER ring (and she has passed away, dad too....). SO, I can get away with wearing the ring on my pointer finger with the guard on it, that said I think I will have the original set with her or my birthstone (hard to explain but this is a 70's ring with an insert so it would come out like a fab cocktail ring) and use the beautiful marquise center stone to set e/w so I can wear it more regularly and think about my mom and dad....... Plus, in the end, if I do things this way I can always put it back to they way she originally had it and it will still be her original ring. Sorry for the rambling, glad to see someone else looking into something like this though situations slightly different...

May I give you some advice? Men have VERY short and truly simple memories when it comes to jewelry. Really they only remember how it makes YOU feel when they present it. So how about you take the setting to the jeweler and have it made. he picks it up and presents it on your anniversary/birthday/xmas/ whatever holiday and you cry and act very happy- EVERYONE WINS!!! He really just wants to be as much a part of this as he was of the original. and honestly styles change so much the chance your son will want the setting is about as great as my daughter wanting my wedding dress!! LOL I would use that money for the new setting.... IMHO;)

^^^Thanks for the input ladies.

Lola....I am also sentimental, and have a hard time thinking of getting rid of the setting because my DH was the one that had it made for me! BUT...I am also practical, and cannot se myself wearing this with another stone in the middle. My son says he would like it for his way in the future wife, but I cannot imagine this imaginary wife wanting my setting!!

ShopETOH.....I am going to look int that option. I don't think he was necessarily offended....just kind of put-off. BUT...considering he is on his 3rd wedding ring, I am not sure why it matters!!! I could not care less about that type of thing, and if he told me he didn't like the ring he is wearing now, and wanted a new one...I would be fine with it!

I agree with ShopETOH...as soon as your husband sees how excited you are about your new ring all else will be forgotten.

I just went through this with diamond studs...my husband bought me a pair for our wedding that were lovely and within the budget we could afford at that time. I recently lost one and when I went to replace the lost diamond realized how poor quality the remaining stud was. He was really devestated that I didn't want to use the remaining stud and get another that matched.

Just last weekend we went to the jeweler and when he saw the higher quality studs that I wanted to purchase compared to the old stud he finally understood and was really thrilled and excited for me. He ended up being part of the decision process and almost every day this week he's commented on how sparkly my new studs are.

Just for fun I attached a crappy phone picture...
