Will your jewelry collection ever be "complete" (or is it already?!)?

I have 65 pieces of jewelry. This past weekend I purchased 4 pieces of jewelry. There are a few more pieces that I want to get off my wishlist. Gold hoops, colorful diamond or moissanite studs, and some pearl earrings. They are classic pieces. I don't want to go beyond that. Lately I have been giving stuff to my niece.
It was my Niece’s 21st on the 26th June.

So 3 pieces to her..

But now I’m looking at a jewellery suite of 3 pieces, so my collection won’t have reduced at all-I plan to gift a few pieces to her every birthday, but I’ll Never stop buying in my life, so I’ll just be refining my collection.

As I get older, my tastes and preferences are always evolving (and my tastes don’t necessarily have to do with my current age and I’m only 35).

For example, when I started collecting fine jewelry few years ago, I preferred to wear a set of two pieces. So I began collecting and curating around that (two pieces of the same VCA Alhambra stone etc). Now, I don’t think they have to match, but rather complement each other.

Also… I really like browsing Purseforum, adding and removing pieces from my wishlist, so for that reason alone I don’t think I will ever be at peace with my jewelry collection ha!

I used to be at peace with it. I had a few things that fit in a small box, and wondered why people were into jewelry so much. I think either I was depressed or I had other interests. It's only a problem if you want to stop wanting things. If you're ok with wanting/ getting things every so often, then it's fine I suppose.

I think it’ll be possible to complete my “core” collection. I’m happy with my watches and bracelets, I just need to add earrings, a RHR & another 24/7 necklace. After these items, anything I add will just be for fun.

I have been collecting fine jewelry for about six years, buying myself 2-3 pieces each year (nothing too crazy expensive, I prefer 14k and gemstone jewelry from independent brands vs. name-brand jewels and diamonds). Even at this relatively slow pace of acquisition, I have built up a sizable collection. I actually feel like my collection is almost complete, and I have all but one of the pieces that I need for the foreseeable future. I have already planned the last purchase I can imagine "needing," which I intend to buy as my 2025 piece. This may sound crazy to say, but I'm actually a bit sad about it! Over the years I have really enjoyed researching my future purchases and deciding what would help build a cohesive and fun jewelry box. What will I do now? I need a new hobby!

I'm curious to hear about how others decided that they had reached jewelry contentment - maybe it needs a better term like "purse peace"! How did you know when you were finished collecting? If you haven't hit that point, do you have specific desires to get you there, or do you think you'll be collecting forever? Please tell me more about your special collections!
I don't think I will ever be. I wish I had the funds to just buy what I want and be done with it.

I just transitioned from handbags (I am at ‘purse peace’!) so I am now focusing solely on jewelry. So I am far from complete in my jewelry collection.

I think of jewelry as ‘portable artwork’ because as opposed to my handbags, I can wear my jewelry every day/all day (even if I’m at home all day on some days) and I love to just gaze at the beauty

Edit: I am still buying shoes because they wear so out quickly lol

I'm a guy so I don't need much jewelry. Currently I'm just looking for another yellow gold hoop earrings to match my gold necklace.

At one point I considered getting another 5-motif VCA, but then I decided against it. Prefer for the funds to go to a bag as I still have a few bag goals. Or to my Rolex that hasn't arrived yet (almost 2 years now on the waitlist).
Revising my answer as I fell in love with 20-motif Alhambra by VCA a few weeks ago. I didn't know I would love it so much until I tried it on.

So now I have a new jewelry goal and 0 bag goals lol

Never-my lovely Niece has been travelling all over Europe in her gap year and is only just back in the U.K., since when I’ve bought her a pair of not too expensive diamond cluster earrings as I didn’t want to gift her studs which she might lose at university, so now 4 pieces to her this birthday.

However, my triple row South Sea pearl bracelet broke, and is being replaced(the pearls are being sourced from Australia this month, I’ll post in another thread when I receive it), and today I literally “impulse bought” an 18ct white gold Charles Winston(Harry Winston’s nephew) marquise diamond ring-very small, but I had intended to stop impulse buying jewellery for good!

I’ve already started planning what to gift my Niece for her 22nd birthday, and am also going to buy her a graduation gift, but I continue to buy more, and hope to live to over 100 like my dear friend, so my collection will Always be work in progress!

I don't think it will ever be complete and I always have a few pieces on my radar. I don't need a huge collection but as we all know, even small pieces can be quite costly so for me getting the jewelry I want is a very slow process. Right now I am dreaming of the Tiffany HardWear link earrings in rose gold, a pair of VCA Vintage Alhambra earrings, a FOPE Eka bracelet, a tennis bracelet and then I want a more "fun" piece like a multicolored braclet with round gem beads (but don't know really know from where to get such as I think Shamballa is a bit too expensive - for such piece I don't need a brand, I am more interested in good quality gem beads).

Definitely never-my Niece was over the moon with the earrings (and with the rest of the presents I showered her with)- which just encouraged me to start planning both her Christmas present and her 22nd birthday next June.

I can refine my jewellery collection by upgrading my own investment stones, rather than selling, and gift her pieces which she wears and treasures -I do buy her pieces as well, whilst she’s young and might not necessarily want to wear my style, but she’s very like me, and as she matures I’ll pass on more valuable pieces.

I would never part with my investment stones in my lifetime, but there are plenty more lovely pieces for her to enjoy over the years.

She would like to go travelling to Australia after her degree, so I’ve said that I’ll send her with a shopping list and some money to see my friend!

My jewelry journey is similar to my bag journey….always evolving and honing in on what is most “me” instead of getting caught up in trends, what is most practical for my lifestyle, and what fits in my budget.

Right now I’m at a stage where I’m starting to invest in higher-end forever pieces and there will be more to in the future. I’m finally learning patience and to not just get cheap stuff to fill a perceived void. Also I enjoy wearing pieces 24/7 so no longer bothering with costume jewelry like H leather bracelets which I used to love.

Down the road I can see my lifestyle becoming less active and then my style might skew more refined, and there will be heirlooms coming my way, so that will be the next evolution.
