Will your jewelry collection ever be "complete" (or is it already?!)?

I have been collecting fine jewelry for about six years, buying myself 2-3 pieces each year (nothing too crazy expensive, I prefer 14k and gemstone jewelry from independent brands vs. name-brand jewels and diamonds). Even at this relatively slow pace of acquisition, I have built up a sizable collection. I actually feel like my collection is almost complete, and I have all but one of the pieces that I need for the foreseeable future. I have already planned the last purchase I can imagine "needing," which I intend to buy as my 2025 piece. This may sound crazy to say, but I'm actually a bit sad about it! Over the years I have really enjoyed researching my future purchases and deciding what would help build a cohesive and fun jewelry box. What will I do now? I need a new hobby!

I'm curious to hear about how others decided that they had reached jewelry contentment - maybe it needs a better term like "purse peace"! How did you know when you were finished collecting? If you haven't hit that point, do you have specific desires to get you there, or do you think you'll be collecting forever? Please tell me more about your special collections!

congratulations on reaching the elusive peace island. Personally the planning and wishlists are part of the fun and excitement imo. I tend to work on jewelry in terms of sets like wg, RG, diamond etc. Once I have completed the metal set and find peace I move to the next set and evaluate if refinement/ upgrades are needed. I’m currently working on my wg set and I’m interested in some rested VCA items so this is definitely going to take a while.

I decided about 10 years ago that my jewelry collection was "complete" and there was nothing more that I needed. Needless to say since then I've found many pieces that I loved and absolutely had to have. There's nothing wrong with that. One grows and changes over time. One's taste in jewelry will change too. Fashion changes. So does one's lifestyle. There are times when I've felt sad, that I really don't need any more jewelry, and there is no more need to shop for it. But I've always found excuses to do so. Ha-ha! It's a harmless addiction, unless one spends gobs of money. So don't mourn, but enjoy your passion. It's good to have passions in life.

What about "bling peace"?

I'm a guy so I don't need much jewelry. Currently I'm just looking for another yellow gold hoop earrings to match my gold necklace.

At one point I considered getting another 5-motif VCA, but then I decided against it. Prefer for the funds to go to a bag as I still have a few bag goals. Or to my Rolex that hasn't arrived yet (almost 2 years now on the waitlist).

It's a good question. I don't know the answer.

I like complete sets even though I don't like to wear sets. I remember being the same as a little girl. I can't afford to buy everything all at once, and sometimes pieces are discontinued or are priced out of reach all at once, so I have to look at the pre-loved market which takes a bit longer. I don't actually mind waiting, but it does mean it's a slower process.

This is also how I approach my jewelry wishlist. I am content with my yellow gold set and am working on my white gold/platinum one now. I also like to think about pieces in terms of building out my understated sets for daytime and work, and more statement sets for evening (even though I don’t go out much, still fun to have!). And while I tend to stick to classics as much as I can, I also like to add a fun trend piece or two (as fashion dictates) every few years. So I don’t see ever reaching 100% peace.

My jewelry collection isn’t yet complete.

Categories in which I’m satisfied with the completeness

Necklaces/pendants - complete
Earrings - mostly content
Rings - content with everyday rings, need a couple statement or cocktail rings
Bracelets - this is still in progress, but mostly because I haven’t found the perfect pieces or am indecisive about my stack

I feel I am close to purse peace, maybe bling peace as well? (thanks @allanrvj , I like the nickname.)

I've realized that while I love pretty and shiny things (well who doesn't lol), I am a creature of habit and I like to:
1) wear the same things
2) too lazy to change up pieces unless they're for a special occasion
3) in general, don't like having too much stuff around (for any kind of item)

It's funny because I really admire everyone's collection (keep the eye candy going guys!) and I guess I wouldn't mind having a more extensive collection myself, but I don't really feel as much of a want to buy fine jewelry as I did pre-pandemic.

We do have a long term jewelry wishlist thread if anyone would like to join: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/whats-on-your-for-sure-longterm-jewelry-wishlist.1040678/

We have lists and discussions and update our lists. My list has slowly grown smaller and my preferences have changed over time and I have taken things off. I will probably go update my list now since things have changed lol. :P

I understand what you mean about feeling sad about it as I'm in that place with purses. It's why I love tPF; it allows me to live vicariously through others' planning, analysis, anticipation, and purchases.

It's going to be awhile before I achieve jewelry peace. Jewelers are constantly coming up with new designs, there are new variations of existing designs I'd never previously considered, and there's so many different variations of every theme out there. I also have so much more control with custom pieces. I spend so much time deliberating each purchase, comparing to similar options, wondering if that piece is exactly what I want, if there's any adjustments I might want, and perfecting custom designs. Additionally, I'm deliberately trying to not rush. I want to enjoy this process given it is my new shopping pastime.

I have pieces that have cycled around in style. So when the styles come around each year, I now have a piece or two that goes with the trend without needing new. But I don't feel like my collection has a beginning or end. I often rework pieces into better ones with my jeweler.

I think I like doing that reworking more than buying new!

My jewellery addiction started at birth..I’m a qualified gemmologist..

Jewellery peace will Never come to me sadly..it’s in my veins..although I’m planning to gift some to my dear Niece..

I don’t have a huge collection as I’ve sold/upgraded along the way, although I don’t think I’d sell again with very few exceptions.

Some I will never part with, some Ill upgrade in the future, but I don’t ever intend to have a vast collection..

I will be honest. I definitely have a jewelry addiction. But, I have been slowing down and by next year I will have nearly stopped. I don’t make much money and will need to focus much more on my future. That is why for the past 5 years I have been really focused on my jewelry purchases because I knew eventually I would be strongly limiting myself soon. Every purchase I have made has been what I really wanted and I never settled.
I have a couple more small designer pieces I want and a couple more pricey non designer pieces I want and then I’m good. I am currently in the process of planning them out so that they will work with what I currently love and wear a lot so that I will get a lot of wear out of them. I have really enjoyed planning out my jewelry in the past few years because before that I never gave it much thought and just bought what I liked and ended up with pieces languishing in my jewelry box. My only regret is I wish I had gotten focused sooner but I buckled down and have really done my best to curate my collection. But at this point I can honestly say I am really happy with what I have!
