Will You Be Celebrating 2005 Revival Bags?

I’m probably what you would call a zillennial, so while I didn’t start collecting bags until the mid-2010s, everything Y2K definitely left an impression on me.

The first bag I bought with my own money from my first job (as opposed to clandestine purchases using my dad’s credit card) was a YSL Muse Two, followed not long after by a Balenciaga Work from 2006. That ‘06 chevre was the start of my posts here after years of lurking.

My bag cabinet is mostly the 2010s, but the 2000s never left me. I sold the Muse Two because it wasn’t the best for public transport, only to buy another one a week later. Same story with the Work, which went to a good friend because I thought the lack of shoulder strap was a dealbreaker - ended up getting a ‘12 City which spent its days hand-held anyway.

Additional 2000s styles I have so far include the YSL Muse (bought the large, traded in for the oversized), Mulberry Bayswater (bought 3, kept 2, recolored 1), YSL Mombasa (with the horn handle!), Alexander Wang Rocco (replaced a Rockie), Proenza Schouler PS1 (gave away a large, bought a medium), Miu Miu Bauletto Aperto (RN0437), Tod’s Restyling (absolutely underrated), Dior cannage bucket bag, Chloé Silverado (kept 1, donated another) and a Chloé Betty that went to my sister when she wanted to get into the Y2K trend.

Was planning to get a Fendi Spy but everyone snapped up the vintage ones after the revival, and the rest raised their prices accordingly. Oh well.

For me it was all about the Chanel classic flap. I put it as 00s even though it’s a classic because it was the bag that all celebrities had in 00s. I didn’t get it then, brought it years later when these

I then went onto purchase the following, way after
1. Celine Luggage
2. Dior Saddle (newer version)
3. Fendi baguette in mini, does this count?

I still love all of these handbags . I did consider getting the Balanciagia city, in the older version but can’t remember why I gave up on it.

OMG, I forget about the Dior Saddle! I have a '00s one of those too. How could I forget? Here with a Sonia Rykiel lips pouch - the brooch on the saddle is just resting there.

Wow, you had quite a few of the '00s hits. And I forgot about all those fabulous YSL bags back in the day.

This ad of the Muse sent me giddy

That Majorelle looks so good!

Sometimes I’d bring out the old YSLs for a stroll or to work because for nearly two-decade-old styles, they’ve held up remarkably well. Can’t believe I can call the Muse vintage next year

Next thing you know we’ll be seeing Gen Alpha on the lookout for vintage Céline Phantom and Fendi 2jours :panic:

Well I went a little crazy with the LV TM release. After the multicolor drop, I said the cherry blossom collection didn’t appeal to me. I was wrong. Purchased the cb speedy and it’s the best purchase I made from the entire collection. It brings me such joy to look at, especially during this cherry blossom season! Purchased the white nano Mc speedy, white cousin pm which ultimately returned as it was bulky, black Mc Coussin bb, Lisa wallet, and cb speedy 25. Almost forgot bandeau which I’ll wear as belt!

Edit…sorry for duplicate photos. Not sure why that happened and I’m trying to figure out how to delete.

I remember being OBSESSED with the Fendi Spy bag back then, but I never got one.

I’m not sure if I’ll be sucked into the resurgence of these styles, at least any time soon. I’ve been in a streamlined/classy/quiet-luxury phase for a few years and it shows no signs of slowing yet.

So much fun!!!

I'm so glad you went for it. That Cherry Blossom Speedy just gladdens my heart - even though it's not me carrying it.

I was obsessed with the Spy too. They are still unique, if I had one I would definitely wear it now.

I can understand and appreciate someone who sees these bags for the first time and really wants one. I think the '00s trend was instigated by a younger gen buying pre-loved, and that is also in its way a different kind of luxury.

I have some beautiful quiet luxury type bags too, that's usually my default. All styles have their place.

Oooh are these considered 2005 revival?

I wonder if this Fendi ‘boston bag’ counts. I hunted these for a long time and would still love to find one in great condition.

Oh this brings back memories!

I don't believe I still have any of my noughties' bags, but my favourite ones at the time were the following:

1) Dior Baudrier - the insecurity in me meant that although I loved the Saddle bag, this was the only oversized iteration that was "suitable" for a man - I adored this bag, and I held on to it until mid 2021 before I started parting with some of my pieces - by this point, I had acquired the revived Dior Saddle by MGC, and didn't see the necessity in holding on to this anymore.

2) Dior Oblique Trotter Bag - this was the first Galliano collection that was marketed as being unisex, and I adored it! Again, I held on to this until 2021, and the canvas was starting to yellow a little.

Would you ever buy a Dior Saddle bag in a different size now?
