This is absolutely not an official thread about the anniversary, but this year just happens to be tPF's twentieth year. As the handbag fashion spirits would have it, apparently 2005 bags are IN. Last year I bought my first Balenciaga City (Le City) and this year I find myself wearing my Chloe Paddington and Bay,

I was never sure of the Fendi Baguette
I wanted the evening Spy although I never bought one (2004)
I wanted a LV X TM Retro but never got one
I wanted a Chloe Paddington 2005, bought years later, followed by a large Bay
I wanted a Marc Jacobs Blake but bought a Venetia by mistake from Liberty London (I was none the wiser 'till I came to tPF)
I wanted a Balenciaga City but didn't feel I could live up to it. Bought a reissue 2024.
I couldn't resist a Gucci Horse-bit Chain and bought the convertible clutch; Small Shoulder; Hobo; Med Shoulder

Do you still have any mid-00s bags or their subsequent variations?

Are you still enjoying using them or did you let them go?

What are the '00s 'it' bags that rocked your world?

Are you newer to handbags? Do you plan on buying any vintage styles from that era?

I disliked the Fendi baguette. I could not make the balenciaga city work for me, though I tried twice a decade later.
I mainly wore Chanel seasonal bags; back then I think they still went on sale, and by sale I mean 60% at the boutique
and bergdorfs. I did fall in love with a Boston style bag from bottega that I didn’t want to pay retail for. I found it again many years later for a tenth of the price. It was decorated with swirls of lizard. ETA: not sure when the rise of the ebene cabat by Tomas Maier became popular. . .

In 2005, I was fairly oblivious to purse trends and to a lesser extent, fashion in general…
I would likely buy a MJ Venetia like yours (gorgeous) in a heartbeat if I could find one in a very good, like-new condition (or if they came out with a new version). It’s the one that stands out to me but there might be others - I just haven’t paid enough attention to the other styles, at least until now.
Thanks for the video link - she talks about color trends including the popularity/revival of brown and pink. The various shades of brown have always been my favorite, as well as pink. But brown does seem to be having a moment this year, especially dark chocolate brown.
I’m relatively newer to handbags but interested to hear what others have to say about the mid-00s bags and their variations. And how cool that it’s the twentieth year of tPF!

What a beauty! Decorative techniques from BV were amazing.

I had a couple of mother's pre-Kering vintage, and 'borrowed' one from the late 90s.

The TM era Cabat was the BV holy grail for so many. Perfect minimalist statement for the late-90s that became a classic for a decade after. It was the 'in the know' man's choice too. I couldn't get over the fact it was unlined (of course I realise now it was left unlined for a reason). There are some illuminating threads on the originals in the BV Forum https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/cabat-pics-only.246410/page-9.

I don't know what it was with the Fendi Baguettes, they looked great on the people they looked great on. Very fitting for the maximalist, very embellished fashion of the time.

I love brown: too https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/feeling-brown.996711/ all shades

The great thing with vintage MJ bags in general is that you can pick them up for not to much money. Yes, condition is key (I don't know what people do with their bags :D ). I hope you find the perfect one for you.

This thread is so apropos. Time to get my 2005 Todd’s white bag out of the oubliette.
I was considering getting a City bag. Let me save my 3K and be different and thrifty.
I loved the paddington but at the time I thought it was too heavy to haul around. It is so iconic.

I wanted a Chloe Paddington back in 2005, but couldn't quite afford it. So I got a Luella Bartley Joni bag instead. Still have it, and its still a great bag. Beautifully lined in pink suede, and Very hardwearing leather. Looks great a bit distressed. i used to wear this bag in all weathers, take it on holiday, just generally used and abused it and still looks great. I still take it out from time to time, I think it looks quite timeless. I have seen them on ebay for as little as £60. But I am now happy to be the proud owner of a baby Paddy in black. and I LOVE her! I also have a small Marc Jacobs bag from that era. Another beautifully made bag with a suede lining. I used to be obsessed with suede lined bags. Don't know why?

With regards to condition of bags, my pre-loved baby Paddy (sorry to keep going on about it, but well) was in a pretty sorry state when I got her. Think she'd been badly stored or something, she was a bit misshapen and flat. But I'm breathing new life into her.

That's so pretty, and bang on trend - just better.

Sorry to those that have seen the same image before, but let me show you my Paddington. It took me a little while to get it together and get one, so this is a few years after the peak-craze. Yes it's HEAVY! It's quite versatile though, shoulder, scroll of the arm and handheld.

The new Le City is not cheap, but there are same fabulous pre-loved ones out there. And, the good thing about them is they look great a little 'loved'.

All of the bags that I bought were going out of style or being discontinued. So, I got really good deals on them. I own:
1. Two MJ multi pocket and one small Stam
2. Fendi baguette, Mama baguette, Oyster, and small B-bag
3. Balenciaga City
4. Two Prada Nylons
5. Dior double saddle in light green lizard
I’m sure there are others, but those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head. Mostly because I still use them.

I would love to get a Dior Saddle in the blue oblique print. I thought about the Paddington, but I’m done with Chloe. Their bags are just too heavy. Other than that, I’m not really interested in the current revival offerings.

I still have all my bags from that aera. Major MJ fan. The stam brought me to this forum. I desperately wanted one and could not find it in Germany. Have still at least 10 bags from his main line and MBMJ. I adored the icy leather and have the stam, little stam, Venetia and a MP in that leather. But boy, those bags are heavy…
Also still have my three Balenciaga City. One is a Hamilton and smells heavenly…
Not sure if all my old Celines still belong in this category, they came a bit after I think, Micro and Nano luggage, Phantom and my beloved Trapeze.
Also I have some OG LV x TM pieces from that aera and all those old school Rebecca Minkoff pieces.
Never let go of those bags I collected back them. Choose them all after a lot of thought and my style did not change over time.

Fendi baguette and Fendy Spy I never considered as I thought they are too small for my liking.
