I'm wondering if I should just live w it? A couple small cracks where the straps join the bag. What would u do?

Perhaps a leather product that conditions the leather might help as it could have dried up.

What makes patent leather 'patent leather' is the coating on TOP of the leather, much like varnishing a piece of wood. There is no 'conditioning' it.

I would live with it, and think of the cracks as a way that I've 'personalized' the bag.

If its within return window I would return and get a different line of coach for now. Sometimes they try new techniques and it doesn't always work out.

I have a Tod's D bag in patent - had it for about 4 or so years, it's a workhorse bag, not a mark on it and I don't treat it with a thing (wipe it with a damp towel from time to time)

I've had patent bags my whole life. Never had that issue. And my leather bags have ranged from Coach to LV. Like another gal posted previously, Is it plastic? My Guess & KVZ always cracked cause they're plastic.

Btw Coach does make plastic patents now.

Plz post pix!! Leather rarely cracks because it's a skin and patent is almost indestructible.

Return it. They should either exchange the bag or send it in for some sort of repairs.

You might want to check the tag on the inside to see if it IS in fact patent. Some coach and MK are PVC believe it or not. I have returned 2 that contained it.

Oh this is not good for me, my patent bags are made out of that PVC . Oh well I've learned something.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way . If the bags u own are not returnable, just use them till they die and check next time. You'll be the best dressed mom at the soccer game (or wherever).

Ugh so my fave patent coach tote just cracked today on the straps

This is my 4th patent bag- all diff textures, all from either coach or mk- all have cracked

Will anything patent inevitably crack? I still have one wallet but am feeling v discuraged about patent now

I kept trying bc it is waterproof but...

I have a coach that is patent and it cracked too.

Most patent leather is now "patented" with a mix of acrylic and polyurethane. It will peel and crack, especially in cold weather, because it's PLASTIC. Some of the mid range brands that have outsourced to China will be especially prone to this.

I have had patent leather bags....but no cracking. I only own patent Chanel lambskin wallet now. They should hold up...but as we know not all patent leather bags look the same and so the quality may not be the same.
