will patent always crack

Ugh so my fave patent coach tote just cracked today on the straps

This is my 4th patent bag- all diff textures, all from either coach or mk- all have cracked

Will anything patent inevitably crack? I still have one wallet but am feeling v discuraged about patent now

I kept trying bc it is waterproof but...

That's such a bummer. I've had a lot of patent with no cracking. I've seen peeling for some bags (not mine), but no cracking.

are you leaving the patent bags out under the sun / in high heat? I've never had a problem with my patent leather bags, which are all from kate spade, milly, and RM.

If you want a water-friendly bag, get one made of deerskin. I highly recommend the Cervo* Hobo by Bottega Veneta.

*Cervo = deerskin.

I haven't had any issues with my KS bag or wallets cracking. OP said she had a coach bag though, so maybe the manufacturing process is different?

OP - is it real patent leather or plastic? Real patent should not crack as it is very flexible.

It is both. It can get completely wet and still retain its shape, and dry just as if nothing ever happened.

Ysl patent is supposed to be amongst the best, may want to give it a try.

I recommend YSL patent too! I've got two and they are awesome! Soft and very durable. They do make some of the best patent bags out there.

Not completely on-topic, but I do have shoes in patent leather and no cracking either. Shoes probably take more abuse than bags. I haven't applied any guard or protection though I do think those options are available.

You might want to check the tag on the inside to see if it IS in fact patent. Some coach and MK are PVC believe it or not. I have returned 2 that contained it.

I've only seen the yellowing problem with patent. Never the cracking.
