Why Louis Vuitton chose this ranch south of Fort Worth for a factory

Honestly the main issue here is unskilled workers and low wages. People need to do the right thing and not support made in USA products from LV because of these two reasons , and hopefully LV will see what the consumers really want.

What in the world? No one is forcing people to take these positions at the factory. Most unskilled workers are happy to have gainful employment. Boycott all you want, buh bye.

LV bags have been made in the US since 1995 paying similar wages (adjusting for inflation, of course). This recent announcement changes nothing except expanding an already existing facility. I'm not sure why folks shouldn't support what they've been supporting for over a generation. ETA: Seriously asking. Not trying to be sassy.

While I'm sure that the people in Keene, Texas have the same abilities and learning skills as those in California or France I won't be rushing to buy a TX made bag the first year. Yes, they will be trained. But like most companies I can imagine the workers will be like this :whut: when thrown out on the floor. And there will be large amounts of them like this :whut::whut::whut: and they won't be able to really help or guide each other. You would hope that there's a supervisor and quality control. However, from my own job experience, I have seen what happens on shifts staffed by all brand new hires. Sometimes the one in charge has no more training than the others. It's a hot mess.

I’m experiencing similar situations as well. It no wonder why the economy is not really robust.

This is why LV is pushing to do this even more , because people are accepting subpar quality and **** **** like this. LV needs stop branding itself as French luxury brand if they cant keep the majority of it in france. At the rate their going they're just mass producing stuff and not keeping the quality , they are doing this because people like you are supporting this bull ****. hiring $13/H and no skilled workers is not luxury and its not appealing its basically a 1st world sweatshop.

This is from an earlier job fair when they were hiring for the temp location. Here is the link and pay and benefit copy.

No experience is required and training will be provided at the company’s temporary location in Grapevine, near D/FW International Airport. The starting salary is $11.50 per hour for a 40-hour week that offers a first shift from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a second shift from 2:30-11 p.m., the LV release indicates. There is a differential in salary for those working the second shift.

Benefits include paid time off, medical/dental/vision coverage, a 401K, profit share and company-paid life insurance, the LV release reads.

LV bags have been made in the US for about 10 years and in Texas since 2017. The old factory with no air conditioning was replaced with this new one. I see no change in LV other than improving conditions and expanding an already producing factory. Fine if folks don't want to buy US made LV, but all this announcement does is promote expanding US jobs for a product already made in the US. More US jobs is a good thing, IMO, being a US (and Texas) resident. Who's to say the Texas workers any more or less skilled than the San Dimas workers? I'm sure those accepting these newly created jobs are glad to have an expanding employer who says they're offering healthcare, 401K, paid time off, etc.

Personally I'm not concerned where my bag is made if the quality is good. I have yet to notice a quality difference in CA, TX, or France made bags. (I don't have any from Italy or Spain) But to each their own.
Very well said! I agree, I could care less where a bag is made, as long as the quality is good.

This thread is out of control. Louis Vuitton manufacturing plants are state-of-the-art facilities and there is no reason to believe that the permanent plant in Texas will be any different. Also, the hiring practices seem very similar to the hiring practices in France: people in rural communities hired and trained on the spot. Why is that bad? You don't need a PhD to assemble a Speedy bag.

Unlike most people here, I have been to LV factories (and not just the Asnières one, which is more of a PR effort than an accurate representation of the other plants). These are good, stable jobs for people who often have little other options in their area.

What annoys me about these made in USA bags is that LVMH is skipping paying import tax because these bags are made in USA. Big part of the argument of cheaper pricing in Europe is that LVMH needs to pay import tax, blah blah blah... Now they are not paying import tax on USA made bags so shouldn’t these usa bags price as low as those one selling in Europe? Otherwise it’s just a total money grab... not only they get huge tax cuts from the state of Texas, they are also pricing these bags as if they are paying import tax into US. I guess they can have their cakes and eat it too! :blah:
