Why is the Alma not more popular?

I have always loved the Alma but it does not seem to be very popular, even though it is a classic LV style. Thoughts on why this is so? It is perceived to be too “mature”? Impractical to use? Please help, I am interested in the black epi version.

I think the Alma PM is a great bag and very easy to use. I like it for the same reasons that I like the Hermes Bolide. Zipper top, safe, holds a lot and stylish. It is true that currently, it does not have a great resale value, but the style of a bowler bag is becoming popular again. I have 3 in epi leather. Black vintage, and a newer bright red and one in prune vernis. I had a gray one, but sold it a while ago because I preferred my anthracite Kelly. One downside is that it does not come with a shoulder strap. I think that is a big mistake. I purchased them even though I rarely use them with the bag.

There was a push for the Alma about 6 years ago with an ad campaign, but that kind of fizzled out. I think the tiny bag craze helped to push the style aside. Now that people are back at work and seeing the need for larger bags, it should become more popular.

I think it might depend a little on the material, but at least for me, I used to have an epi alma pm and it was very annoying to use because it was so stiff and my hands would get scratched by the zipper when I stuck them through to access the interior.

I love the Alma PM and have had several, in both Epi and Damier Ebene canvas. Eventually I sold them owing to my unfortunate vacillation about structured bags--but I never thought it was hard to use. Easiest was the Damier canvas because it had more give, but I rocked a Mandarine Epi Alma for several years and adored it. (Another one I sold because the color just didn't do it for me.)

The Alma PM is an iconic and useful bag if you are fine with hand-held.

I really like Alma, BB & PM, I found the style is very easy to use and the design makes it a very sturdy bag. I think there is way too many Alma in the market (since the style has been producing for decades) that caused resale prices are lower and selling slower.

This is very helpful, thanks for the detailed response! I am looking at the pm size for work so this helps with my decision.
