Why is Italian Leather better?

I looked at the guarantee on Maxwell Scotts site and it only says they will repair the handbag but it did not cover wear and tear so what do you think using the bags is? Its confusing to me? It seems they are not guaranteeing anything because as soon as you use it isn't wouldn't it come under the definition of wear and tear.

I have taken this from the website: "All luggage bags, briefcases and handbags manufactured by Maxwell Scott come with an amazing lifetime manufacturer's guarantee for the natural life of the product. Due to the high build quality and leather durability these products are designed to last substantially longer than most high street equivalents. Under this guarantee, we will undertake any repairs due to a manufacturing fault on zips, stitching, clasps, linings etc. free of charge (you only pay the cost of postage). Please note, we cannot be responsible for tears, abrasions or damage from misuse; however we can still repair for a reasonable fee."

This seems pretty good to me! Are you not mistaking misuse for every day wear and tear?

its a manufacturers guarantee against zippers, stitching, clasps and lining. I sell Hunter Douglas Blinds & Shades we offer the same type of guarantee. If its a manufacturing defect something will usually go wrong within the first month of use. After that it falls under the category of wear and tear. I am not dissing this company as long as you understand what they are telling you. I looked at their web site and they appear to have lovely items and I thought the price point reasonable. The problem for us here in the US is the euro to dollar exchange and the very high cost of shipping. Thats why I buy from online companies that are located in the US. I'm sure your Mum will be very happy with her bag and what a nice gift to her!

The purse has just arrived! Whilst its not my cup of tea, you certainly cannot discredit the build quality and leather which is stunning! When I spoke to them on the phone before, they mentioned that if a zip needed replacing or the stitching came loose after several years then this would be fixed free of charge under their guarantee...

Its nice to know. Hopefully you won't need this option for repairs. I haven't had any repair issues and I have bought several Italian bags from this lovely company, Bellezza Imports located in the US. The leather is beautiful and the quality superb. I personally feel that once you own Italian leather its hard to go back to anything else. I'm always comparing my bags to others. What do you like to carry? What does Kate Middleton carry?

I have one prada handbag that I love but I hardly ever use! I also have a lot of no name brands and a couple of leather handbags that have been passed down to me. I agree, nothing is quite like a good leather handbag! Funnily enough Kate Middleton is apparently a fan of Maxwell Scott! When I was looking for a purse to buy my mum we did some research on the company and found that out...

Cool! All my bags have Italian Names....my favorite are Giudi & BarbaraMilano. I have researched them and they belong to the Italian Consortium that Scott Buys from. I researched that too and it has 23 tanneries that are associate members. I carry a different bag every month. I just love handbags only Italian....they should hire me to do PR for them. LOL

I have definately been enjoying it, it has turned into my "go to" bag and even after a mad shopping day yesterday with my mother and my 4 year old hyperactive daughter (lol!) the bag got bumped around you would never tell! If fits everything in that i need and i love the smell of the leather (and i NEVER say that!) as unfortunately MOST leather bags arrive smelling of either chemicals or a kind of funky nasty smell (i hate to say it, but usually when they are made in China) but this bag has a nice smell to it, i smell it as soon as i walk into my bedroom where it has pride of place in its dustbag on a stand, lol!

Hi platinum_girly I know this is an old thread. I was wondering how the bag is wearing one year on. Which style of Maxwell Scott did you choose?

I'm rarely taken in by the 'Made in Italy' label. I think most of us know now that bags can be assembled anywhere, regardless of the label. The end product really depends on the production values of the company. Two of my favourite bags are by Burberry and NOT made in Italy. But the leather quality and workmanship are both superb. At the end of the day, even if those bags were not made by Burberry, why would I need a superb quality receptacle to house my stuff? Today I'm carrying a Marc Jacobs hobo, that's actually made of plaid wool, but with leather strap and trimmings. Rotating is the key to handbag longevity.

In answer to "why do you need a superb quality bag to house your stuff?".
Have you thought about how much it costs to replace what's in your bag if a seam rips and dumps it in the street? Or the strap breaks when your running for a train?or the zipper won't close and it's starts to rain?
The replacement cost on my iPhone alone is 500. No line bifocals 700. Then the time and hassle of replacing my wallet with cash, cards and ID.
I want a bag that keeps my stuff as safe as possible AND is pretty. And that usually costs money.

We have experience with Italian leather products and find the leather quality, the fixtures and fittings and the finish of the products are much higher.

It is not necessary to pay enormous designer prices to get this quality and in the end I feel that quality and manufacture are more important to me than a "name" that carries its own price tag.

Agreed. I found an Italian leather bag in tj maxx today. I never heard of the brand but the quality is superb. The leather is very soft and the stitching is impeccable. Couldn't be happier with it. I looked up the brand online and turns out their products are hand made ^_^ if u ask me, a lot of these bags that I see for ridiculous prices don't look all that different from lesser known brands. Yes they look better made but not to the point of being worth $1000

Sure! It's called Nardelli. MY only fear is in keeping it clean. Idk how to clean this leather and I'm paranoid about my bags getting dirty because I like keeping them in as perfect condition as I can. I tend to be anal when it comes to things like that
