Why is Italian Leather better?

Hmmmm, well Katie_rose I looked at Maxwellscott's web site and I could not find anywhere that said they gave a one or even two year guarantee. It did say a 30 day return policy(standard) you pay the shipping costs both ways outside of the UK! The site did say they would repair broken zippers, buckels, straps (also standard with a reputable co). They made no returns on wear and tear or used items after 30 days.
And he was a bit misleading in his assertion that his co was the only one that used high grade Italian leather. From what I understand his Co had the tannery in Italy make his bags and he put his name on them. No different then any of the other Italain handbag designers such as Giudi or BarbaraMIlano, Varriale, GianniConti. And yes even though they have long Italian names they are very reputable Italian handbag companys.

Is Pierotucci one of those "few factories"? Just curious. Thank you.

Bottega Fiorentina, which has a shop in Florence center, Perruzi, though i'm not sure about their hides, Dantesca, and yes also Pierotucci. Those are the few i give credibility to.

I bought a beautiful wallet from Dantesca. Its the best dyed red i've seen in ages.

I would say do your homework on the company if you are buying online. I know for a fact that the handbags I bought from Bellezza Imports have all come with a guarantee that the leathers have been tanned by the Italian Tanning Consortium that uses natural extracts. In fact on their front page they have a picture with a link showing them visiting a tannery in Italy. The owners probably feel the same way that the people from Maxwel Scott about bogus companies. Knockoff or fakes are a real problem in any industry.

I saw another post about someone wanting to buy an Hermes Birkin lookalike. There's a website posted and I noticed some bags that were exactly the same as what Maxwell Scott is selling but under another co name. I suspect the companies are using the same factory to churn out their bags.

I goggled the Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium and there are 23 tanneries in Italy that belong to the consortium. But its my understanding that the tanneries do not make handbags. There are other business that make the handbags or if the company is large they might buy the leather and make their own bags.
I'm going to email Bellezza Imports imports and get some information.

OMG! Just caught up on this thread and was a bit concerned about the comments mentioned about Maxwell Scott. My mum actually asked for a purse from their website when I first found them here so I ordered one! I rang them up to discuss my concerns and they did actually confirm that all their products come with a lifetime guarantee...I think it says so on this page on their website http://www.maxwellscottbags.com/s/our-guarantee.html The purse hasn’t arrived yet but I will let you know what it’s like when it does!

I looked at the guarantee on Maxwell Scotts site and it only says they will repair the handbag but it did not cover wear and tear so what do you think using the bags is? Its confusing to me? It seems they are not guaranteeing anything because as soon as you use it isn't wouldn't it come under the definition of wear and tear.

There was a really full explanation about this guarantee on this thread, posted by the dude from Maxwell Scott, but this, along with all his other posts, has been deleted for some reason. I presume the powers-that-be perceived this to be using tPF to promote sales, but the downside is that you don't get to debate issues like this with the manufacturers/agents.

PS I was quite disappointed that his threads were deleted (or perhaps he chose to delete them himself...?), as I always like to hear from the people at the front-line in bag design to see what their USPs are. I think this is quite different from random spambots posting links to online sales etc (which is irritating...) I used to like to read Monica Botkier's posts for the same reason, but she's also disappeared from here now... :o(

My post was also deleted, even though I was just thanking for the input.
