Why is it so much harder to spend your money on jewelry than bags/shoes/etc.?

I feel the same way. Since I don't wear much jewelry, it has to be something that REALLY catches my eye. That usually means much $$$$, lol. Also, a bag or shoes are usually something I wear every day (I don't have many shoes either, just the basics that I'll use) where as a ring or earrings, well, maybe not. I don't know. Funny isn't it. But being different is what makes the world go round!:p

I justify spending much more money on jewelry then clothes or handbags because I wear my jewelry everyday and I feel that jewelry is something that I will have forever and weat forever. I tend to wear classic basics over and over again and while I like pricey clothing and designer handbags I wouldn't consider spending anywhere near as much money on clothes and bags as I would on jewelry.

I had always loved accessories especially jewelry. I can drop thousands on fine jewelry but I find it so hard to drop even $1000 on a designer bag. I love the beautiful bags too .. chanel, marc jacobs, but i don't know why i have to think so hard before I make a purchase..

My taste in jewellery = $10k +

My taste in handbags = $500 +

And there's the reason right there ;-)

Although I have an easier time justifying a $10k cocktail ring than a $10k bag!

Agree. The jewelry I truly covet (unlike the bags I truly covet) are very, very costly. More than I can afford, that is for sure.

I agree with this sentiment, except that I've never dropped $1000 on a bag. I think the most expensive bag I've bought was around $6-700, and that's pretty much my max. My norm is around $5-600. I only buy 1-2 bags a year, but I love looking at all the great styles each season. Any jewelry I buy will still be being worn years after I've forgotten about a bag I wore and got rid of.

I think that buying jewlery on the whole is a bit of a process....and it is true that the expense is higher for jewlery than for a bag, clothes, shoes...etc.

I personally have a "thing" for bags so its much easier for me to take the plunge, but with jewlery....Im always not certain, then the price negotiating is a drag...also some jewlery is for everyday but others might not be so easy to wear....so the bag wins out most of the time...lol. Unless the jewlery totally cathces my eye...its easier to pass up for me.

I have the same problem - I won't blink twice to spend money on a purse or clothes, but when it comes down to jewelry, I am very cheap. I think it comes down to the fact that a lot of jewelry I wear currently is just for fun, costume jewelry, and my mom's friend makes these in Hong Kong so I pretty much get them for free.
