I agree with most of the ladies... It's the classic distinctive style, not to mention the complements. One main reason that Selena mention: stablity of the price.... Im sure that we never have to worry about buying an LV and then the next day it goes onsale somewhere else... ;)
So you should convert to LV now now now:noworry:

about the value i have to agree with all the ladies here. they are truely investment pieces as they do hold their value or in some cases even increase.
by the way there are only 3 companys i am willed on spending big bucks on. chanel vuitton and hermès everything else is overhyped unstable fashion ;) and literally a waste of money. hence what do you think who wants a paddington in 10 to100 years to come?

I think they are beautiful, and are made so well I know I will be able to pass mine along to my daughter someday. (With proper care of course.) She's 5 right now. Also, resale value is outstanding.

I have a mono speedy 25 and a mono batignolles horizontal and they were both WELL under $1000.

Personally, I wouldn't touch any of the lines outside of the Mono, Damier or Epi lines, and with the Epi, it would have to be a wallet or something, not a handbag.

I love the coated canvas in particular because it wears much better than leather, it's far more easily repaired than with other luxury/designer brands, and the coloring of those two patterns make the bags not only classics but neutral classics I can wear with most anything.

My first purchase was an LV wallet. I literally went from store to store to store in one of Georgia's largest malls looking for a particular style of wallet, and LV was the last store to check out. I hadn't been in there before, but they had the perfect wallet, and despite the jaw-dropping price of $175 (in 1990), I whipped out my charge card. Here it is all these years later, and it still looks new.

I had one Givenchy wallet that started falling apart in less than two months. Another shows obvious wear. The Brahmin I carried for a change has definite wear as well. Only the LV looks new, and it's been used for 15 of those 16 years. That makes it a bargain IMO.

If you buy an LV that you not only love but isn't trendy, it'll be a bag you can carry for years to come.

I must say I really worship Balenciaga's quality. It's superb - and for 1k at balenciaga you're getting a bag made entirely of kidskin leather. I love my LV's, and I love that they're hand made, but I don't think the quality is worth the price - especially with all the quality issues lately. 10-20 years ago if you brought a subpar LV to the store they'd replace it - now they tell you it's your fault. I hate to say it, because I love LV, I really do, but their quality has just continuously gone down hill these past few years :(

i agree with the other posters...also, keep in mind that not all the bags are $1k plus, bags like the speedy are in the $500-$600 range. You can also start small w/a wallet or a small accessory.

I never understood the attraction of LV. My practical side says, "$1k+ for a bag that isn't even leather? That's crazy!"
i thought the EXACT same thing before i bought speedy...but i've come to realize my leather bags get beat up far far more quickly than the canvas. granted, my leather bags before were from nordies rack and TJ maxx, but even coach leather and chanel aren't immune to scratches. when i was contemplating speedy i figured out i spent between sixty and a hundred dollars a month on bags and coordinating wallets (depending on how fast they wore out, how fast i got tired of them, if things were on sale, etc. etc. the longest bag i carried lasted about 2 months). if i carry speedy for a year i save up to 600! :) how's that for rationalizing. :)

i've now carried speedy for nearly three months. it looks BRAND NEW, goes with almost everything and i haven't even looked to buy another bag it still makes me that happy! :) (well, not looked seriously anyway. looking never hurt anyone. hehe.)

Having never touched LV bags up close, I have a question about the monogram stuff. This is plastic-coated canvas, right? Isn't it yucky and stiff...or is it soft? Is it indestructible? Is the lining nice?
the canvas is soft but durable. it doesn't feel yucky at ALL and the coating makes it pretty water and stain proof. i am VERY VERY hard on bags and mine looks pretty much brand new except for the patina. the inside lining isn't terribly attractive or soft, but it's durable. if you want pretty, go for mulitcolour...it has the fun alcantra lining (microsuede) but i think it would get dirtier faster. also look at damier...it is the same canvas as mono, but has pretty red lining. i wish they'd put fun lining in the mono, but what can you do. :)

Also, I'd love to hear about why *you* love LV. The logo? The Uma Thurmann ads? Timeless shapes? Practical details? Do you get compliments? Does it make a great pillow when you travel? Spill...and convert me!
i love LV because of the timeless shapes, durability, great service and the sense of history and class that surrounds the brand.

i can appreciate most bags for the design aspects and creativity, but personally i only carry very basic shaped bags. i hate pockets, grommets, zippers, pretty much any outside ornamintations. :) lower end designers LOVE putting that crap on their stuff. it's not just bags either! jeans, tees, shoes, belts, SOCKS even! it's annoying. i semi digress, but that's part of the reason i've started buying more expensive brands lately...it's the only way i can find anything classic looking that won't fall appart. part of my expensive handbag habit was the search for the PERFECT bag and for now i've found that with LV. :) besides, i'm kind of a label whore. i love owning that little piece of historical luxury. it is what it is.

ok. that was really long. :) but i love LV so so much! :)

I love LV for the same reasons as everyone does on the site. LV's are timeless, classic, stylish and durable. They're made with the finest craftsmanship, and they just stand out from every other designer.

Before I ever owned LV's I always wanted one. Now I find myself with 2, and tons of accesories. The fun never ends!

I love LV because of the mono canvas and the shape of the bags. The first time I ever spotted one (25 years ago), I fell in love immediately and had NO idea who made the bags or the cost. It just "spoke" to me and looked so classy.

This was true for me too. I was in my early 20's in 1982 when I got a job in NYC. Seeing the professional women toting their LV's was imprinted on my mind. I don't love every LV, and tend to be drawn to the simpler, classic styles. My Batignolles Horizontal is my favorite LV bag, and I always get compliments when I carry it.

I'm impressed! I thought I was the Princess of Rationalization, but you've beaten me! I never thought to amortize the price over the course of a year :)

I'm guilty of a bit of that myself, especially when it comes to history. That's why I'm cautious about labels...because once I'm convinced, I get really sucked in!

Thank you - everyone - for your long, well-thought-out responses. Every little bit of info helps!

first off, this isn't plastic coated. it has a coating, but i'm not sure what it's coated with. some sort of waterproof/industructable material. they're actually pretty soft. the lining varies from the line and bag. in the papillon it has crossgrain leather lining, and in speedy and most bags it's a brown canvas. some of the newer or multicolor pieces have a man-made suede called alcantara inside.

for me, what drew me in to LV in the first place was the fact that it was the only luggage that survived the sinking of the Titanic. 2nd to that would be the shapes/styles and compliments. the ads don't do much to sway me about the pieces, I mean, the Gisele Bundchen ads with the Fringe line does NOTHING to make it look more appealing IMO.

you do have to keep in mind, that LV uses the highest quality products to make their bags/wallets. AND every single piece is hand made. just like a ferrari or a lamborghini that costs as much as a condo or apartment loft, those are handmade too..
Your info. is most valuable and appreciated. I love the Titanic story!!
