Why do you buy bags?

I'm drawn to bags because I consider them wearable/functional art. They hold my stuff and make me look and feel good. Sometimes, a handbag doesn't have to do anything...it can just sit there on my nightstand and look fabulous. I get to guiltlessly hold it close to me all day and admire the texture of the leather, the mechanics of the zipper, the placement of the decorative hardware...:shame: :D

Well, you asked.

Oh and I love bags because they last for a long time and I work hard for my paycheck and it is nice to use some of it for myself and little luxuries after paying the mortgage, utilities, groceries etc. They are like my gifts to myself. I love the search, anticipation, aquiring and basking in the glow of carrying my new gift.

I think you all are right. Clothes, come and go. You can have staples that will last a lifetime and then some. Purses are one of them. It may sound strange to some carrying a Stam bag with a pair of 20 dollar old navy jeans, but who cares? Half the time you can't tell who's jeans they are if they fit you well. Secondly, no one is paying attention to your jeans, they see the bag.

The bag is what is in your face and ladies, when another woman walks into a room, most of us are inclined to look at the shoes and the purse (especially us purse fanatics). We all know that our bags will be in great condition when we are crippled and using a walker. When we die, people will be feening to get their hands on a vintage LV or 1st generation balenciaga.

We buy purses to make us happy. To make us look even better than we already do. Whether it be in jeans or in formal wear. To know we will have these bags for a long time to come. So pull out your LV, balenciaga, BV, YSL, MJ, Kooba, etc and show them with pride. And the next time someone asks why you buy so many bags or such expensive bags, don't be afraid to tell them why bags are the best.

Because I can't afford the silk Dior blouse that when you hold it up to the light is as opaque as a butterfly wing. Compared to that blouse, the $2000 handbag is a bargain.

Also, I think we all imagine ourselves as goddesses floating through spaces, and insead of a pitcher of eternal life giving holy water, or a bushel of blushing flowers, or a partchment of divine words, we must carry something signifigant...like a handbag, but not any handbag, a work of beauty in our own image.
