Why Do People Buy Fake Designer Bags Or Fake Designer Anything?

I would rather buy a no name then a fake. To me its like trying to pull off the "I Have a high dollar bag" when no you dont. Dont fake it not to mention we have no idea what kind of shop we are supporting. I will not support a company if I don't know that its some child labor or unfair employment sorry cant do it and when a friend of mine does that is exactly how I tell them. never once have they thought I was being rude or judgmental towards them or their taste.

22 pages and nothing new has been said since like page 2.

I know, I know, I just should stop reading it.
Me, too, but it's actually quite funny now. Nobody bothers to read what was written before. Nobody seems to worry about insulting anybody else. Some assume everybody is like them (i.e., only one culture - theirs). This thread is like some kind of "Desperate Counterfeit Wives of Global United" or something. :D

Quite certain we could take every fifth post, add them all up, and find the solution to stopping fake bags.

ah yes - Its amazing how many people in this forum say '...I don't advocate fakes but... its ok for OTHERS to carry and I am not one to judge.' so many enlightened people here, :D who think their actions dont have any consequences.

I agree it's a dead donkey topic but this is a forum so it's meant for people to post their opinions! I think nothing wrong with a healthy debate!

I also particularly like the argument that "everybody else is doing it so it's OK for me to do it too". Everybody else is doing it does NOT make it legal or moral in principle! Last year, there were riots in London, when shops were robbed and set on fire etc. Afterwards, offenders were arrested and some of them were interviewed. To answer the question “Why did you do it?” it’s amazing how many of them said their excuse was “I saw everyone was doing it, so I thought I’d join them.”

There is a sociological term for that behavior, but I have perpetual mom brain now, so I cannot remember it. While I believe in being culturally sensitive, I don't believe in moral relativism. If it's wrong, it's wrong.

I think it's funny how people continuously ignore the fact that the market for fake bags is directly related to the market for authentic bags. The only sure fire way to eradicate the fake industry would be for everyone to simultaneously decide not to pay outrageous amounts of money for ANY bag. But, of course, that is not going to happen. But that is my contribution to doing away with the fakes. I don't pay thousands for a bag and I DON'T buy fakes. None of my friends or acquaintances buy fakes that I know of and if they did I would let them know that they were supporting a whole host of unsavory things that they probably didn't want to support, but I'm not going to become irate every time I see a stranger carrying a fake. That's me taking responsibility for my actions and mine alone. I'm not so "enlightened" that I think I can change the world by being derisive and nasty to people who do differently than I do.

If I'm going to put my energy into doing away with any of the world problems out there, fake purses would be WAY far down on the list for me.

Hey, I thought page 14 had some insightful comments :p

True that so much has been said, have you noticed though how sensitive people are about it? There were a number of threads on the subject: http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/women-who-carry-fake-designer-bags-big-trouble-755107.html
http://forum.purseblog.com/handbags-and-purses/why-do-people-use-fake-handbags-787519.html

to name just a few... they usually deteriorate into full scale warfare, between those who 'will not tolerate fakes' and those 'who do not judge'. To be fair those who actually buy and wear fakes (someone does right?) cannot post freely here as what they do is illegal and they may get banned at the very least. (so its 'friends' and 'non judgement') Personally, I do judge others by their appearance, to start with at least - after all, I cannot see their inner soul:D
