Why Do People Buy Fake Designer Bags Or Fake Designer Anything?

I don't think the whole fake bag thing would be too bad if people were honest and not try to sell fakes as the real thing. And the thing is if there was no market for fake bags and accessories they would not be made.

The problem is there will always be a market for the fake ones as long as there's a market for the authentic ones.
I wish people were less status/brand driven and could appreciate bags without needing to associate it with some brand more often.
I've bought some really beautiful no name brands and I always get compliments.

Begs a new question: What do you do if you inadvertently end up with a fake bag? You 've purchase something you thought was real and can't return it... or you have a fake bag from a time in yourlife when you did not know better or care...

And now you DO know better, and you DO care. What happens to the bag?

It gets destroyed!! Burn it, cut it up, whatever!!:graucho:

Does it piss you off too?

Sometimes when you're with friends someone spots a Chanel/Hermes on a Movie/ TV show and says : oh ... I have this one! that just pisses me off while i know the person owns a cheap knock off , but doesn't really "KNOW" the difference.

I've seen the same thing many times, especially in my country that there are few people with authentic hand bags and most of the people wear knock offs like LV, Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Dior and Prada. there are like among each 100000 women, just one of them is wearing an authentic stuff. i actually admire people who wear lower end brands like zara/guess but never claim their ugly fake prada to be a real deal !

i think the reason why is they mostly don't know about it. or they can't afford it, for example in my country the prices are freakishly expensive. something like 4 times more than everywhere else. and we got no official brand store, but a few ones. and we got no premier designer store.just random boutiques who "claim" to have authentic items which are tagged with unbelievably expensive prices, but you'd never know if they are fraud or not... however, it still pisses me off that people doesn't know about the difference, because they can at least gain a little knowledge about the difference between the counterfeit item and the real deal. it's such a buzz killer when someone doesn't even know that an authentic thing will cost an arm and leg. not 50$ ! and they even sometimes brag about their " brand" bags which cracks me up :))

I wouldnt own a knock off because a) there made of crappy materials the quality sucks and b) I would be embarressed people knew it wasn't real and I was just pretending I had a real designer bag. But that doesn't mean I never have before when I was younger and the chanel purse with the cc's on the side was really popular I had a high quality knock off but that bag fell apart after a year

To me it's obvious: people want to appear to have money to spend on designer swag

I agree. And its funny to me because I know several "rich" people who carry no name brands and several girls who carry authentic designer purses that are heavily in debt.

Yes, and yes.

Several years ago there was a really great article on The Onion titled, "You Must be Rich." It was all about people with barely $2 to rub together, but covered in head-to-toe expensive designer logos & clothing, and how they all look at each other and think, "You must be rich." It was pure genius, because it was so very accurate.

Lol!!!
That is so funny!
And Houston, where I live, is like the Mecca for that attitude.
I once heard it described as "Big hat, no cattle."
I personally think it's silly because all they're doing is inviting someone to come and rob them.

I think Chanel once said that it would bring her tears the day no one copied her.

I have two P cars, and they each cost me $3K.<---(yes ....they were used and need restoring, which still brought them in at about $7K over a couple of years).
Carrying a real $8K+ Chanel or Hermes bag would somehow seem a tad over dressed when I am driving something that cost less that carries me ... and my life and safety depends on.

To me a Hermes Birkin or a Chanel flap bag are perfect blends of form and function, and I wish more women had at least a knock off of each to know what great design is.

Second reason that I bought my knock-off's is that it rains here eight months of the year and I really felt goofy having to whisk out a plastic bag to protect my restored reptile vintage bags at every threat of a sprinkle.

I don't EVER condone knowingly buying fakes.

I may sound snooty, but I think it tells a lot about a person when they are willing to pay for an illegal, counterfeit item so they can pretend they have money. It's disgusting.

I don't think all people buy fakes because they want to give off the air that they are wealthy. Maybe they just like the design can't afford the real thing. On another thread I saw a bag posted that looks very much like a Balenciaga. The leather looked very nice and so did the quality. The picture on amazon does not do it justice, really. http://www.amazon.com/Bruno-Leather-Italian-Motorcycle-Handbag/dp/B007NKYTW0/ref=pd_sbs_a_7 I would very much like to add a Balenciaga to my small but loved collection and I could order a Balenciaga today but I have at least a dozen other things that take financial priority. I'm also a person who tries to save for emergencies; I've lost a bit of time off work due to breast cancer a few years ago--the reoccurrance of that is always lurking in the back of my mind. I am considering buying this cute little bag. Now I would never tell anyone that it is a Balenciaga, of course, I would tell people it is a Bruno that can be purchased at Amazon.

I think there are alot of people who buy REAL designer handbags who are pretending that they actually have money when they don't.
