Why are you addicted to bags?

Let me just speculate from a psychological angle here..

Maybe there's a subconscious reason that we focus more on a bag. It is the item in our daily wardrobe that we interact with the most. A bag reaches almost all our senses many times throughout the day - the item that we hold and consciously touch the most; the item that we see the most as we pull things we need out or root around inside for; the item with the smell of luscious leather that brings us back to some favorite childhood memories; the item with zippers and hardware that may jingle as we walk... as for taste, I got nothing. I hope no one has gone so far as to lick their bag.

So maybe it's more about that subconscious experience we have every time we carry a bag. It's the little emotional details in how that experience makes us feel that keeps us coming back for more. Once you've had a taste of how delightful that experience can be, there's no going back- it's the start of a whole new addiction for more.

I have no idea where my addiction started but handbags are the only thing i feel i get my moneys worth from.. I'm always loosing or gaining weight so clothes are always being donated or just not worn anymore. I have spent a ton of money on shoes before only for them to get ruined very quickly from wear and tear.

What a great topic! I have been trying to analyze myself lately and wonder what my obsession is about with purses.

I'm not into shoes anymore because a pair can be oh so comfortable in the beginning and quickly become painful.

Clothes... well, gain weight and they don't fit, lose weight and they don't fit.

Purses always fit.

But, I still need to figure out the reason why I love them so much.

Hear hear.

Totally agree with this. I dont spend "high" amounts on most clothing or shoes (some exceptions) for this reason.

I carried backpacks always. Usually one per year. They broke. I got annoyed... I'm off backpacks now, and it's mostly about function, with quality materials. Most of them are less than 150 dollars, some significantly less. But they're all good quality, and I keep figuring out function. At this point, I prefer lightweight, either nylon or small.

I love bags because they are like my baby blanket that I can bring anywhere with me. People always make fun of me because I never set my purse down when I sit or get up to walk out of the room. I always have it on my lap or on my arms... >_<;; I feel weird without it.

Mostly it's because I like to bring my things when I go out and to have a pretty bag to put them in gives me joy. My handbags are one of my prize possessions. They're something nice to look at. Fortunately, I know I can pull myself away when I know I can't make a bag purchase.

I wish I could say I was just addicted to bags, but I am also addicted to shoes, clothes, jewelry...I just love beautiful, well made things. I didn't have much as a kid, and I remember that my mom bought me ONE pair of penny loafers each September that was meant to last the entire year. I was always so excited to smell that new leather. My mother also loved beautiful things but she had things from her youth that were well made and which--to this day--I still wear/use. That is a testament to the longevity of a well-made piece.

I don't spend money indiscriminately; I obsess about a purchase, think over it carefully, etc. If I feel that it will last me a long time and still look great, I will spend the money on it. I still wear shoes and bags I bought 10 years ago.

So for me, it's about longevity/quality and beauty.
