Why are you addicted to bags?

I like bags that are usefull to bring my stuffs and make me look pretty. Expensive branded bags sometimes can not guarantee that they are good for me and good for my stuffs. Cheap bags and not branded bags sometimes are more usefull for me. Anyway some people use branded bags for telling people how rich they are andnhow much money to spend for buying the bag, not because the bags are usefull for their stuffs and make them more pretty. Funny huh hahahahs
and sometimes the cheap no name brands you do come across end up being fakes of a low range designer. I figure one might as go for low range brands to mid range brands and be glad it's authentic then buy something that's making money by imitating something from a high end designer.

What a great topic! I have been trying to analyze myself lately and wonder what my obsession is about with purses.

I'm not into shoes anymore because a pair can be oh so comfortable in the beginning and quickly become painful.

Clothes... well, gain weight and they don't fit, lose weight and they don't fit.

Purses always fit.

But, I still need to figure out the reason why I love them so much.

I don't know why, I just know I've always always always been a bag girl. Before I was into purses, per se, I'd even get excited to choose my book bag for school or a duffel/gym bag. It runs that deep in me, lol. I just get very excited about materials and details and function and how it feels when a bag has just the right weight to it.

I think it also has to do with how a bag can define you. Not the bag itself, but the contents. Think about it, what you carry in your bag is like a curated summary of who you are, for the day at least. The particular lipstick or lipgloss you use, your wallet, the cards you carry, your car keys, do you carry tissues or hand lotion, etc. It's like all your favorite things or necessities kept safely in one spot, and the particular items you chose speak to who you are. If you peek in any of my handbags you are likely to find a Fresh lip sugar, an Aveda or Kiehls hand lotion, Nars lipstick, my beloved Chanel wallet (or coming soon a BV wallet) and a pair of Barton Perreira sunnies among other things. Everything chosen for one reason or another and no one else's handbag will ever have exactly what mine does. Now that I've said all that, I think the handbag is the most personal of fashion items, the easiest to take on as mine.

Oooh...I'm huge on this!! When I find t-shirts that I like, especially long sleeve ones, that's what I do! One white, one black, and either a brown or grey.

Me three - except three black Ts, two brown, two gray. The canvas doesn't have to change much, it just has to fit well - because what makes it all special is the BAGS.

I love the way a bag can accessorize an outfit but what I absolutely love the most is they are so forgiving! If I put on 10 lbs.; lose 10 lbs.; wear high heels; sneakers; no matter what, the right size shoe conforms to my figure and flatters! I wish I could say the same for shoes!!!! I have narrow heels and every pair of sexy pumps flies off my feet whereas a gorgeous scrumptious leather bag sits on my shoulder an adorns my outfit!

My bags are usually the focal point of my outfit, they can dress it up or dress it down. I don't spend as much on clothes or shoes as I do on bags. They're worth investing in for the quality, and I love that they wear well in the long run (unlike clothes that shrink in the wash, or shoes that get scuffed after a few wears). There are so many different styles to suit what I'm wearing, where I'm going, how I'm feeling, etc. I've just always been a bag girl. :smile1:

Ah! Same here, I loved reading this. I always thought it was weird that I'm willing to spend a good amount of money on purses but not shoes or clothes. My favorite reason is that a purse will ALWAYS fit, no matter how you're feeling that day. Heck, the right purse can even make you feel better if you're feeling down. I do love thinking of purses as investments and it kills me to hear people scoff at the idea.

It just makes "Me" feel good to have something that I don't have to share..Don't mean to sound selfish, but a woman's bag is her identity.
I've really paid attention to bags in the last 8/9 years. Before that, I didn't care what I carried!!
I don't have a closet full of bags, but the ones I have are the ones I will not part with.
Clothes and shoes aren't as addicting, I'm way more pickier when it comes to my purse.
I love being a woman and having the femininity that follows....Having a nice bag makes me feel good and also keeps me organized...

I'd rather spend a lil more on a bag and know I will have it for years to come ;)

It was the smell. One of my earliest memories is at around the age of 3 (late 1960s) skipping down the road to the cobbler whenever i could - it was a dingy little dark workshop full with the intoxicating smell of leather and beeswax, total bliss :cloud9:. Even had my own three-legged 'cobblers stool' there. The cobbler was in his 80s or so (died soon afterwards), must have had the patience of a saint as he kept answering all my questions, explaining which tool is for what etc. I was mesmerised by watching him doing the two-needle saddle-stitch, by the array of tools and all. (I even demanded my own "cobbler's apron" so my grandmother whacked up one on the sewing machine.) I think that's where my leather obsession started.
Up to this day, i still sniff the hell out of every/anything leather. (Yep, even at Hermès - but they don't mind it ) Can tell apart lamb, chèvre, deer or cow by the smell alone.
