Why are pre loved Chanel mini rectangular in caviar so expensive?

For Chanel as a fashion house, lambskin is the more luxurious leather.
I always thought that it was to persuade the people with the smaller wallets to shell out for a bigger bag in a more sturdy leather. But that could easily be something that someone once said, wasn't based on anything at all, and is now stored as generic bag info in my brain.
Chanel hates the resellers. They did not do it for them. They did it because people started buying the mini's over classic flaps because they were cheaper (and not to mention the Mini bag trend). They know in general people prefer the durability of Caviar over Lambskin.

I am caviar leather fan but I won't buy it for that price. I got my rectangular mini in chevron lambskin(my first lambskin) preloved. I agree that lambskin leather is buttery smooth but I don't really baby the bag and enjoy carrying it. I love the size that's why I usually bring it with me as an extra bag when I travel. 
Just get the lambskin instead! They are not that fragile and more beautiful. I found my chevron black rectangular mini with LGHW for under $4000 pre-loved recently.
I have two minis in lambskin and the leather is just so luxurious! In fact, I was going through my Chanels last night and even my husband commented on how much my lambskins stood out (and looks better to him) compared to my caviars. Lambskin isn't that fragile. I honestly think lambskin is so so stunning.
I’m in the minority here but I would say buy it if you love the color and hardware and you know that you’ll use the bag more frequently than you would an alternative like the small classic flap. I have spent over retail on a mini rectangular flap. When they were priced at $3300 I spent $3900 because I wanted the silver caviar with ruthenium hardware. No regrets as the color is versatile and I just love the mini much more than the classic flap. I don’t think I’d pay over retail for a black caviar mini because I know that Chanel will eventually make them again.
These are my thoughts exactly! Crossbody is a MAJOR thing for me and I can't stand the thought of altering the chain length of a small CF and then having trouble reselling it again one day - does anyone have any experiences selling CF with altered chain lengths? I also really want caviar because although lambskin is luxurious, it really can't beat the durability of caviar.
Unfortunately for me though, in the Australian 2nd hand market, I can't get the mini under $7500 AUD! (We have to pay 10% tax on imports so I'd prefer to buy in Australia). Besides, the price of a lambskin mini is currently $6200 AUD so, although I hope I'm wrong, I feel that by the time they make the minis again in caviar that the price will be around $7000 anyway! Haha
Still sitting on the fence about it but I really do want the mini in caviar, even though it means shelling out a bit more for quality preloved! Sigh, what can a girl do... haha
Well when we hear that Chanel is going to release caviar minis again you can always plan a trip to Paris or Rome. I saw two black caviar minis with ghw in Rome back in 2017 when I was just getting into Chanel. I went to all the boutiques in Paris during that same trip and they didn’t have any in stock.
It’s so expensive because of rip off places like Fashionphile. They know you paid say $3500 for it brand new so they offer you like $2900 and then sell it on Fashionphile for $5000. I’ve sold 4 minis that way and I think I’ve learned my lesson. A) buy more thoughtfully then impulse B) don’t sell to Fashionphile
