Why are Prada bags so expensive?

yes, they used to make beautiful deerskin and washed buffalo. now it seems to be mostly the saffiano. saffiano is durable but as someone said, it's used by a lot of less expensive brands

I think Prada should be encourage to make more deerskin and Buffalo leather. Saffiano is nice in all but it not the most luxurious material.

I was literally tired of seeing many bags in Saffiano in their stable colors and rainbows of colors of them of my countless visit to the store.

I have a prada deerskin wallet....saffiano probably would have worn better but I fell in love with the soft leather....no real regrets

I think it’s beside the point to say ‘Chanel is above Prada’. We want more than one high design, high luxury fashion house in our world. Prada has an impeccable high fashion pedigree with a completely different aesthetic to Chanel. It’s like comparing an apple to an orange. Personally I want to live in a world with both.

Don't get me wrong. I was referring to economic metrics like brand equity and rankings made by financial analysts. (These metrics tend to be what brands use to gauge if they can afford a major price increase.)

Obviously to compare Chanel and Prada in terms of aesthetics and cultural influence is wrong, they do very different things and have both made their own unique, enduring impact in fashion.

I noticed Nordstrom and Neimans are no longer carrying Prada handbags.

One of my local Neiman Marcus’s has a Prada boutique. It’s a separate entity built into the store.

Nordstrom used to have Prada boutiques in their stores but no longer. I asked the SA about it and Prada has pulled all their boutiques out of Nordstrom. I should have said in my above post that Nordstrom and Neimans no longer have Prada handbags available online. My mistake in not specifying online. Looks like Saks still carries Prada handbags online.

No, Prada sales have been rebounding, very well (excluding the pandemic drop), they rebounded again very well after stores slowly opened. I think Prada is the one pulling out since they want to gradually switch to a concessions type model.

It is when a brand leases a space inside a department store (i.e. Saks) to sell their products. It gives their brands more control of their prices and discounting, so that the image of the brand can be maintained.

Every Louis Vuitton shop inside another store is a concession. Louis Vuitton does not do wholesale, so they are able to have no discounts to the general public.

Prada expanded into polished leather recently for their men's and women's accessories. It is really nice! Reminds me of polished men's dress shoes. I liked the Brique bag before in Saffiano, but as you mentioned, it is so common and is used by less expensive brands too, so I didn't get the bag. When I saw the polished leather version in April, I couldn't stop thinking about it. It made the bag look that much better (and "refreshing" for a Prada bag). I got it full priced, which I haven't done with Prada for a while, which reflects how much I liked it.
