Why are Prada bags so expensive?

 then why are they so expensive? I'd rather buy an expensive one which is made in Italy than in China...

These brands price based on the brand and prestige, Made in Italy is a bonus for them. This is why I can understand why Chanel prices themselves above the rest, because in terms of recognition, prestige, brand value, they are above Prada.

See Balenciaga manufacturing in Tunisia, Madagascar, China, and anywhere else, yet charging and increasing their exorbitant prices. Or almost every luxury brand outsourcing hand-embroidery to India at lower costs, yet charging the same or higher.

The LV leather line is called Capucines and it's around 5k. They also have other leathers: epi, mahina, empreinte, that run a little less. Prada leather looks more sophisticated to me. It's more sleek and streamlined. Not all Prada bags are made in China. I recently purchased the crystal nylon bag and it was made in Italy. I also ordered the re-edition 2005 thinking that it might be made in China, but I didn't care cuz those bags are in high demand and always sold out. To my surprise, that one was also made in Italy.
That was really helpful! I am going to keep an eye out for the ones made in Italy

I don’t have any of these larger style bags but I do have several of the smaller bags, all in the saffiano leather.
They wear like iron to me, I don’t think i have a tougher bag. I love the saffiano leather it is very practical and also beautiful. I have items that still look new after being worn daily for long periods. The longevity is impressive.
I would love to get a larger bag one day.
I like the sound of that! :)

That makes sense :)

Concerning corporate environment:
In an interview I wouldn't wear this, it could either be interpreted badly (jealousy) or as a proof of success... We cannot really tell you without knowing your country or environment.
To wear everyday ot work: I would, maybe wearing the logo against the body.
Sadly it depends on your colleagues personality, love for fashion. There are many threads devoted to this.
In my case I'm alone in my office so I'm happy to come with my H stuff (ok, it's not obvious and only those in the know, know)
Many threads have been debating this, without reaching an answer ;)

Agree: It depends on the nature of the corporate job and office environment. Does the job require you to engage and cultivate interpersonal relationships with clients or colleagues? I’d leave the luxury bags home. Is it a job in the c-suite or where the quality of the work is all that matters? Carry what you want. (Though I’d still opt for more discreet Prada or H over LV logos or Chanel.) I use both a Prada bag and a Kate Spade for work, and I choose which one based on where I’ll be going, what I’ll be doing and who I will interact with that day.

For what it's worth, Prada is redirecting a lot of their manufacturing back to Italy. Both my SA and I noticed a lot less bags being made in China.

Quality is another conversation though.
I wasn't aware they were making bags in Italy again. I had heard here on the PF about the Chinese manufacturing.

Yep, they've been investing a lot in local manufacturing. They also just recently partnered with Zegna to acquire a prestigious Italian cashmere supplier.

All of the bags I've seen featured in the Outdoor collection (the pastel Re-Nylons, the raffia totes, the terry bags, the drill totes, the raffia baskets, the sling backpacks, the quilted bags) are made in Italy.

You may still see stuff made in Vietnam (puffers, Linea Rossa), China (small nylon goods, outlet stuff), and other places.

I don't have a problem with stuff that's manufactured in China. But I don't want to pay Made In Italy prices for it.

I’m not sure...I’ve always wondered that myself. The nylon is cheap and the saffiano leather reminds me of the Kate spade bags I used to carry as a teenager and young adult. It is hard wearing but I don’t find it luxe at all. To each their own, I guess!

I think it’s beside the point to say ‘Chanel is above Prada’. We want more than one high design, high luxury fashion house in our world. Prada has an impeccable high fashion pedigree with a completely different aesthetic to Chanel. It’s like comparing an apple to an orange. Personally I want to live in a world with both.
Saffiano leather has become more popular over time, more widely available and copied at cheaper price points and by all manner of cheaper brands. Back in the day though saffiano leather was first made in Italy to an impeccable high quality and inextricably linked to Prada.

Prada leather bags prices are more in line with LV empriente leather and epi leather bag prices. But I wish Prada was push out more of Daino leather. Or finer leathers.
yes, they used to make beautiful deerskin and washed buffalo. now it seems to be mostly the saffiano. saffiano is durable but as someone said, it's used by a lot of less expensive brands
