I am new to this brand and only spotted it when my fashionable boss in a corporate environment walked through with a blue/grey prada bag and I loved it. I looked at the price though and it's even more expensive than Louis Vuitton! Why are Prada bags so expensive? Would you wear it to work and in interviews? I think the one she had was in Medium and Saffiano Leather.

I am not really sure, if one can tell, why Prada bags are so expensive

But when you compare the prices to LV and tell, that Prada bags are even more expensive, keep in mind, that LV uses canvas on most bags & the Prada bag is made from Saffiano Leather, which is more expensive & considered more luxurious.

Or did you compare it to a Louis Vuitton full leather bag?

Prada leather bags used to be made in Italy and high quality. I think now they're made in China and the high price is largely paying for the brand name.
I have an older Prada bag that's lined in leather. I don't think they do that anymore.
This is the problem many now have with Prada. I have an older leather Prada bag too. One of the reasons that pushed me to purchase the new crystal re-edition bag was that it’s made in Italy. But my understanding is many of the bags are now manufactured in China

I was comparing it to the neverfull bag for LV :) I agree about the material, I did not know that before, that's interesting.

Would you consider these bags as corporate wear / interviews?

Prada is known for their nylon bags, which is at a lower price point. LV has canvas and Prada has nylon. When you get into the leather categories, LV and Chanel is definitely more.
I honestly did not know that, that's interesting!

I always thought Chanel was a higher range bag (£6K-ish), then Prada (I think it's about £2K) and then LV at (£1K).

I am double minded whether to purchase a prada bag for work

:( then why are they so expensive? I'd rather buy an expensive one which is made in Italy than in China...

it is what it is. Many “designer” items are made in China. A good book discussing this is “How Luxury Lost it’s luster”. I don’t think Prada is any more expensive than other designers. In fact they are less than Chanel and most of the LV leather lines.

The LV leather line is called Capucines and it's around 5k. They also have other leathers: epi, mahina, empreinte, that run a little less. Prada leather looks more sophisticated to me. It's more sleek and streamlined. Not all Prada bags are made in China. I recently purchased the crystal nylon bag and it was made in Italy. I also ordered the re-edition 2005 thinking that it might be made in China, but I didn't care cuz those bags are in high demand and always sold out. To my surprise, that one was also made in Italy.

I don’t have any of these larger style bags but I do have several of the smaller bags, all in the saffiano leather.
They wear like iron to me, I don’t think i have a tougher bag. I love the saffiano leather it is very practical and also beautiful. I have items that still look new after being worn daily for long periods. The longevity is impressive.
I would love to get a larger bag one day.

For what it's worth, Prada is redirecting a lot of their manufacturing back to Italy. Both my SA and I noticed a lot less bags being made in China.

Quality is another conversation though.
