Who has pawned jewelry before?

Yea I might have to. When I meet with the jeweler about the band I said I'd bring them for his input. I might just give up and give them to my sister or something.

Has anyone tried one of those cash for gold places? I have some old heirloom pieces from my grandmother I don't want. A few rings and a diamond tennis bracelet. Would I actually get any money?

Probably not. I did sell some old crap my mom gave me and I got practically nothing offered to me from them. I got a jeweler willing to pay me for them but I still didn't make much.

That sucks.

Retail value all of this stuff is about $6,000.

The main pieces are two rings (one emerald, one sapphire) and a diamond tennis bracelet. How should I try to get rid of them?

Yea you'll never get close to retail unless they're signed pieces like Tiffany's or something.

You can try consignment locally or through something like Jewels By Erica Grace or Diamond Bistro but it won't be fast.

I have found a few places around here that buy stuff so I guess I'll take it around. What would be a "good" price that I should accept? I've read online if you sell on ebay or something you could maybe get half but I am not counting on getting anywhere near that either. I just don't want to be scammed.

Be happy if you get 1/4 to 1/3 of what you paid. And that's probably generous. Most places cannot resell your stuff very easily because a lot of people won't buy "used" stuff. And it's cheaper to make new for them.

That seems fair. I figured it would all probably be melted down or something anyway. I will go a couple places and see who gives me the most. I figure something is better than nothing if it is just going to sit in my jewelery box gathering dust. It is all really not my style and yellow gold which I don't wear so I see no point in hanging onto it.

Do stores typically give you a better value if you use it to "trade in" and buy more jewelry for them? Or should I just get cash?

I took it out and they offered me $600. I tallied it all up when I got home and based on the purchase prices (some from 20 years ago, and I'm not even accounting for inflation) and the stuff was purchased for probably around 8k. I didn't take it.

About 2 years ago, I had all of this 18k yellow gold , gorgeous peices that I never wore. I was into white gold at the time. I am kicking myself for selling them for scrap prices!
I got totally ripped off, a few months after that I had about 10 rings with YG and diamonds and I had the diamonds taken out and had it made into a bracelet from an artist locally. I wish I had never of scrapped the gold as I could of used it for the bracelet!
Can you use the diamonds or gold for another peice, this is for anyone that wants to rid themselves of old jewelry.
I still have some old rings and diamonds and stones loose around here. I want a slimmer version of the bangle the guy made me.
Maybe make a ring or something you would wear? It is very green, but I guess it is expensive ( the artist was a quack and really expensive).
Just an idea if the loss would hurt too much.
